I purchased the typical 5 gallon set-up with comes with everything except the fish, water, gravel and seaweed embellishments. I have two 3" goldfish in this tank and they quickly overwhelmed the filter with their by-products (dung). The tank started getting cloudy in 4-5 days and steadily got worse. I did a few partial water changes but the cloudiness persistently came back. The goldfish started to show signs classic signs of Ammonia Burn (their fins and gills started turning black). So I upgraded to this filter thinking that it would solve the cloudiness/Ammonia problem but it did not. As it turned out, I noticed that dung was getting trapped in the seaweed, gravel and plastic log I had in the tank so I removed them all and did a full change of water. Since then, the cloudiness has not reappeared, the black burns on the fins and gills has disappeared because the filter sucks up 100% of the dung. I still think this pump is part of the cure mainly because it really stirs up the aquarium and gives the fish a work out if the swim into the stream. It was a great upgrade! PS: The fish could care less about the gravel, seaweed, all these pigeons of the sea care about is their next feeding...
*BOUGHT THIS FILTRATION SYSTEM AS A BACK UP TILL MINE CAME IN THE MAIL WORKS WELL.. LOW LEVEL IN THE CONTAINER DOES NOT COME ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP SO YOU DONT HAVE TO GET NERVOUS ABOUT THE WATER IN THE FILTRATION
Very quiet and the rate of water flowing through cleans the water fast. i have 10 gallon tank and used this same filter for the past 12 years wit no problems until it last month.
I have a 16 gallon, bow front tank that came with a filter that is just powerful enough to move the water, but it doesn't completely fit the back of the hood. I tried a 20/30 filter and that was too large and too powerful. This one fits. It fits as if it should have been included with the tank! Water is clearer than the one that came with the tank because this one covers 10/20 gallons and the one that came with it only states 10 gallons on the box. Good buy for the price.
My tank from Christmas was staying a milky color, 10 gal tank . even changing the filter more often did not help. so I bought a filter for a bigger tank but of course it does not fit in the opening......so one day my cat might fall into the tank. ?? hope not. it is a bit more noisy than the tetra wisper filter. that came with the tank. may buy the larger whisper filter?? any ideas
quiet easy maintenance and functional
Way too strong a stream for a 10 gallon tank. Water pushed about a half inch above main level against the opposite side of my 10 gallon tank. My guppies could only swim in about 1/4 of the tank while it was running. Probably would do well in a 20 gallon tank or salt water tank.
I have used this product in a 10 gal fish tank and loved it. Now, I have a 16 gal and haven't been able to get it clear. I changed to Aqua-Tech from the filter that was originally in the tank thinking that this would clear the tank. Nothing that I use is clearing it. I will contact the company and see what they suggest.
If I could give this 0 stars, I would. I bought 1, brought it home, plugged it in and water started streaming out of the bottom through what I assume was a broken seal. I boxed it up, returned it, bought a second one and headed home. The exact same thing happened again! I called the help number on the box and was told that they have had this complaint before and they could send me a replacement o-ring in 7-10 business days. Needless to say, I returned that one, too and bought a Tetris brand- and that one doesn't leak!
I have used the Aqua Tech power filters for at least 30 years and had always loved the excellent performance in keeping the water in my 10 gal tank really clean and crystal clear. After about 5-6 years of service my latest Aqua Tech filter needed to be replaced. Again, I purchased the same exact filter expecting the same great product. NOT PLEASED!!! Ever since installing this new filter, my water has been so cloudy I can barely see the other side of the tank! The only thing I can figure out that is different is they redesigned the cartridge that used to be filled with a very fibrous material that trapped a lot of the particles being filtered out. This filter was not meant to be replaced, only thoroughly cleaned and reinstalled. The charcoal filter does not appear to be different and I replace them regularly. This newly designed turquoise filter had no filtering material in the turquoise plastic frame, there was no fibrous material to help trap and keep the gunk from returning to the tank! It is just a turquoise plastic frame with small oblong holes! I have done a 30% water change, pulled the whole filter apart and cleaned it several times but within days of doing various amounts of water changes, and cleanings, it always returns the water to super cloudy within hours or a couple of days! I only have two fish left in the 10 gal tank. All I have left is one large plecostomos and one albino cat fish. My 2 small neon Tetras, one small Danio zebra and one small swordtail died within the first couple of weeks after replacing with this new Aqua Tech filter! I did not change their diet or add any new fish when I replaced the old Aqua Tech with the new Aqua Tech filter. I am vigorously researching for a different brand of filter since I no longer trust the Aqua Tech. I had no problems until I replaced my older Aqua Tech filter with the new and "improved" version. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Sorry, Aqua Tech, but y'all let me down after being a staunch supporter of your brand for all these years. I have never had any outbreaks of disease and most of the fish I have kept for all these years just died of old age! Was this new turquoise filter supposed to have some sort of filtering material that was possibly missing when I ordered and received this new version? I am a very loyal customer when I find a product that proves over years of experience to be trustworthy. I am very upset and terrified to replace my dead fish with new ones while my tank resembles a bog not a tropical fish habitat. If I could have, I would have not given any stars but would have instead given a minus 4, one for each of the fish that died in this murky, ugly aquarium.
