What a relief. Phenomenal product, A+.

AZmonkee October 28, 2015

This is the 3rd set of security cameras I've owned and used. The first two sets were so inconvenient, expensive and useless that I didn't think I'd ever bother with another set. I got these as a part of a review program but I'd seen them before and wondered what they would be like. I imagined that they'd be as irritating to use as prior products that promised the same things. I was so pleasantly wrong. These arrived in one box. The packaging was so neat, tidy and heavy duty. All my cameras came brand new and there wasn't a scratch on anything. Seriously, I think you could play basketball with this package, as I'm sure at times my ups man does, and still not harm anything inside. The next thing I noticed was that absolutely everything I needed was in the one package. I did not have to buy a single wire or plug or SUBSCRIPTION. It took about 5 minutes to unpack and read the instructions, which are very clear and easy to follow. I picked my places to hang the cameras. I followed the set up instructions and bam, I was able to set everything up on the first try with zero hassle. Just to be clear, these cameras really are wireless. They don't require a power source beyond the batteries they come with. They never need to be plugged directly into the wall or an internet modem/router. They connect through a wireless device like your phone or laptop. You will need a good, strong internet connection and a good source of wifi. I recommend taking a laptop to where you intend to hang these and see how well your connection reaches. You'll want to have a GOOD internet connection. I get about 24 mbps on the average and it works really well. I did have to rethink my camera positioning when I realized that the base didn't connect well through the stucco on certain parts of my house. No problem, really, I just moved the base to a less obstructed area and hung the camera on a different eve. I've had clear camera signal since. I do think that you'd have trouble on a 3-6 mbps connection, possibly even a 12 may not be enough. So, do some checking. Also, an aside, this will automatically set up on your device as data enabled. If you're using a phone and have a data plan, viewing your images could burn a bunch of data quickly. Set to wifi only when your connected. I initially spent under 45 mins hanging all three of my cameras. It's really quite simple and fun. The magnetic bases for the cameras are super slick, they require only one screw and allow the camera to be fully adjusted to whatever angle you need them too. This could literally not be an easier system to use. It took under 5 mins to do the initial connection between cameras and base. Be sure to download the app and follow instructions. You wouldn't want to get these hung first and then have to try to connect everything to the base. Overall ease of set up was impressive. I spent another hour or so playing with the settings in the app. You're able to fully control how this system works. I love that there is a sensitivity setting for the motion so the bunnies in my yard don't trip it but the dogs and bigger do. I love that it's motion tripped and records when it is. This is a huge improvement over others I've used. Who wants to waste hours worth of recording space on nothing. The night vision is fantastic, better than I could have imagined. Video quality is far superior to the wired versions I've used and I don't have horrible video cable running all over my house. The base is attractive and sits where my modem and television set top box do. You really can't tell it's there. The cameras themselves are so small and unobtrusive. I put them up and still don't notice they're there. When motion is detected there is a red light that flashes on the camera. I LOVE this feature. Anyone coming onto my property can clearly see that they are being recorded. On to the app, this is a little trickier to learn. There are different settings for everything from motion sensitivity to rules you set regarding how the system uses the data it records and how it records. It took some time, not too much, to figure everything out but man, it's in your pocket. I use my iphone and can control and view from anywhere. I love it. I got three cameras with my set up but I'll be ordering more. The basic subscription, which is free and included, allows you to store video for up to 7 days. It also supports up to 5 cameras. You can upgrade to other products, for a cost, that will extend storage space for video and time that video will be stored. The Arlo HD security system is a welcome revolution in affordable, effective home security. I am sincerely impressed.

Completely Wireless

Juliet October 13, 2016

I purchased the Arlo security system because I wanted cameras with HD and were wireless. The cameras and system were so easy to install and it was fun programming each camera. The system can handle up to 5 cameras and so in the near future, I will be purchasing another 3 camera system since each camera costs approx. $175.00 each. There was a learning curve on how to schedule when the cameras should detect motion and start recording the video. After some trial and error, I was able to figure out how to accomplish the schedule. I would definitely recommend this security system.

Great Wireless Cameras

Skip October 20, 2016

Purchased the 3-camera package and couldn't be happier. I read a lot of reviews commenting on battery life but I've had them for a while and the battery level is at 98%. I liked them so much I bought another 3-camera set for my brother-in-law. The sensitivity adjustment works well as does the iPhone app. Love 'em.

Alro HD security cameras are amazing!

tammyb1970 October 28, 2015

The Alro HD security cameras are the best security cameras I have seen, I would give it 10 stars if I could! I had tried other cameras in the past and gave up because they were not very clear and everything looked like blurs and they would need to be reconnected over and over which made them pretty useless. Honestly I was sort of expecting the same with these. I am so happy to say I was completely wrong! Setting up the Alro security cameras is super easy even if your a non-techie person. They come with everything you need including the batteries so they are ready to be setup right out of the box. The cameras are 100% wireless so you can put them anywhere you need them. Simply download the app to your phone, tablet or computer. Then hook up the base station to your router. The base station is easy to connect, Simply plug in the power adapter and connect the base station to your router with the enclosed cable. Place the batteries into the cameras and hit the button on the base station and the camera and they are connected! There is 3 camera's in this set, You can use 1 or all 3 or even add more cameras if you need more then 3. Each camera comes with a Magnetic camera mount so you can put them where ever you wish. The cameras are for indoor/outdoor and are weather/rain proof. The mounts just require one screw so even they are easy to move and they are small enough they don't take up a lot of space. (see photos-One it is sitting on a iphone 5c for a size reference) The magnetic mount also makes it very easy to adjust your camera as you need to. The camera's are motion activated and even come with free 7 day up to 1GB cloud storage of your video. They also have night vision so you can still see what it going on even in the dead of night or a low light area like the garage. You can have the software send alerts to your phone when there is motion and view it from your phone when your away from home. Overall its a great set of security cameras for your home or even office/garage. The video is super clear and the software is easy to use. These would make great nanny cams for checking on the kids after school or even checking on the babysitter. I would HIGHLY recommend these cameras.

Nice, but could be better with a little work

xcgfatboy November 4, 2015

After receiving my new Netgear Arlo HD Security Camera system, I could not wait to get it set up and running. I had plans to install it at my front door and the front corners of my house. After opening the box I found that the only mounts included with the system was a magnetic base, which was great for mounting it inside on the wall. But outside, someone could just grab your $150 camera and use it with their system or sell it. I would have rather had a better outside mounting system included with an indoor/outdoor security camera system. So after getting everything unboxed and looking over the instructions I was surprised to find that the basic service was free. I thought by reading the description online that you only got 7 days of free service and then you would have to pay for it. But instead the Basic service is free for up to five cameras with up to seven days (depending on recordings) of cloud storage. Or you could upgrade to a paid Premier or Elite service plans for more cameras and storage. Set up was very fast and easy. Basically you hook up the base station to power and your home wireless network and install the included (CR123A) lithium batteries into the cameras, Then sync the cameras to the base station and register for your free Arlo account where you can view your camera streams from anywhere on a computer, tablet or cell phone. Then install your cameras in a good position inside or out and you can mount them upside down and change it in the app to show it the right way. Then all you need to do is learn how to get everything set up with the Arlo app. (I'm still learning). I would have to say that the app could be better, but the more I use it the more clearer it becomes to me. They have a position mode so you can set up your camera views, which has a 130 degree viewing angle and the cameras can be placed up to a maximum of 300 feet from base station. The cameras only come on and record when motion is detected, they do not record continually, and so the more they come on the less the batteries will live. It's been a couple of weeks now for me and two of my camera batteries are at 2/3 charge. They say they can last up to six months, but I'm not sure about that. Also they recommend not using cheap or rechargeable batteries. The motion detection picks up side to side movement better than coming to or going away from camera and is best detected at five to twenty feet away from the camera. You can adjust the motion sensitivity and what they call rules or change the names of the cameras and if you would like an email when some or all of the cameras detect motion. You can schedule on and off times so if you only want the cameras to record motion when you're at work are whatever floats your boat. You can add friends and share what the cameras record and so on. Also on the back of the base station is 2 USB 2.0 ports and I have no idea what they are for. Over all I like the system. I made so temporary outside mount for now, until I can come up with something better and I wish they had a way to hook up a power source so you don't have to keep buying and changing batteries all the time. Good luck and I hope this helps.

High picture quality, Sensitive motion detection

Snorkeling October 26, 2015

This set of security cameras is very easy to install and use. The picture quality is among the best in all security cameras. INSTALLATION: There is a base and three cameras in the package with all accessories. The base is an Access Point for cameras, use 802.11N protocol. After connecting the base to home router with internet access, it will connect to Netgear database automatically. The whole setup process is very simple and easy, just follow the clear illustrated manual in the package. It is so well designed, I believe anyone can do it right without any error. PROS: (1) High picture quality. In both still camera and video recording modes, the captured picture and video are very clear. Automatic setting for brightness and contrast is perfect. User can also adjust the brightness through control interface manually. (2) Easy to use. The web interface is very simple, all settings are straight forward. You can manage all cameras and picture/ video library in one place. (3) Totally wireless. The camera is equipped with four A123 batteries, no power line needed. (4) Coverage area. For my three story house in suburban area, the connection is perfect no matter where I put the camera, from basement to attic. User can see the signal strength for each camera on its control interface. (5) Very sensitive motion detection and clear night vision. CONS: (1) User control options are limited. No control interface available for the base, it will choose wireless channels automatically. If you want it to use another channel, there is no way to do it. I believe the communication between base and camera is secure, but there is no way I can tell. (2) No local storage available. Netgear only provide 1GB cloud storage, if you need more, you have to purchase it from Netgear. There are two USB ports on the base, but no function. (3) Infrared for motion detection. Which means user cannot monitor motions through a glass window, the camera has to be installed outside. (4) Totally depends on Netgear database. In any situation of lost internet connection, the camera become useless. I experiences a couple of times of the database error. After login, it shows “the database service is currently down”. If you plan to use it outside North America, the connection to the database maybe slow or censored. OVERALL, it is a very good security camera set for home use. For your information, by default, when storage is full, the camera will stop recording, maybe you want to change it to erase old files.

Night vision, what night vision? Batteries low life

Greatreviewer December 12, 2016

I've had a top brand camera ( let's say the name rhymes with best) compared to this the night vision is terrible. I can't see anything that's not 4 ft in front of the camera. A thief would have to walk right up to this camera and look right at it to see anything. The motion is slow. It starts recording 5-10 seconds too late. You miss a lot in that time. The batteries were at 85% when we installed them. It does have 720p but in order to conserve battery life you have to rin camera at lower quality. Only thing that is lconvenient about this system is it wireless and easy to install. It hasn't even been a week and I think I've decided to box it up and return it.

Battery piggy

CNPS October 31, 2015

This camera has a couple of issues that I want to address, along with some nice features. Pros: 1. Easy set up. Once you connect your base to the router, it is very easy to program ( sync) the cameras themselves. Just bring them to the base ( about a foot ) and press sync button on base (led blinks green) and them on camera ( LED turns blue) . Very easy. When LED on bade turns steady green, you are ready to go. 2. Mounting is fast. We mounted the cameras using the mounting bases. They have a strong magnet, so they stay in place great. 3. Each camera has 4 batteries that are easy in to insert in the cameras and has a secure clasp. 4. You get everything you need to get started as long as you have the router to connect to the net. 5. They are not intrusive and can be hidden to a certain extent. 6. They give you a great view. 7. Can be positioned 250-300 feet from base. Cons 1. You must have the space on router to hook up the base for the cameras. I did not and made adjustments by getting a different router. I was going to update my old one anyhow, but if you do not plan on it, this can be a cost factor. I just needed to do it a couple months earlier than planned. 2. If you have a lot of wildlife like I do, the camera constantly comes on. Since it is a motion detector for both day and night, this action ran down the batteries within less than a day. To replace the batteries daily is cost prohibitive. 3. You can get the batteries for about 20 dollars for 3 cameras , but it is much more costly for the kind you have to recharge. Each camera takes 4 Panasonic CR123 CR123A 3V Lithium Batteries or We also got purchased Panasonic RCR123A 3V Lithium batteries. Best to keep an extra set of batteries, to keep the system smooth running. 4. If you have a lot of movement, and do not want to spend tons of money on batteries, you need to find a spot that doesn't activate the cameras so often. Since this can defeat the purpose of having security cams in areas needed, this should be a factor to check. 5. It does not have the ability to record what you are watching that I could find. I would like something that can be saved in case of intrusion. 6. The mounting was easy, but the placement could be an issue. The mounts have screws for both regular walls and sheet rock walls. We used these outside and had area with wrought iron joints. We needed to mount the camera bases with adhesive on one porch to be able to get the correct angel needed for our purposes. 7. Slight delay from camera activation and on screen view. 8. A minor but still was an issue for those of us with arthritic hands, the packaging was difficult to open. Considering the cost of the set up, it is understandable why that would be so, for theft reasons. Still, it took longer to open the package for me than to sync the cameras.

Not happy .......

Glad I can read August 23, 2017

Already have this system and its "ok" for the price, plus I like the fact you don't need to run wires or need an AC power source for each camera, and wanted to add 3 more cameras to our current 3 camera system. Since the cameras usually cost $150 each, buying another complete system w/ 3 camera's for $300 only made sense. Once home only two more cameras would pair with our current Arlo system. When trying to pair the 6th I found out only 5 cameras are supported by the Arlo "free" service, more then that and I needed to pay $99 a year. I tried using the 5 cameras for a few days and apparently the modem can't handle the extra cameras as 1 was constantly "offline" and the other intermittent. Would have to climb up, remove and re-install batteries to get them back up (which only last less then 16 hours, then I had to do it all over again) Packing them up and taking them back!!! Still have the original system and since we've had it 6 months we're stuck with it. Again it's an "ok" system but the recording starts 5-6 seconds too late and you catch the back of people coming and going. Not the greatest if someone were to break in and you're trying to ID them. We'll be looking into the Nest and other systems even if it means hardwiring them. That's too bad because I like the concept that Arlo has, just needs to work out the kinks.
