It's fast, the SSD drive has it booted in just a couple seconds.. One of my favorite features though is that as a college student this utilizes the on-chip video while your not gaming to save battery life and jumps into performance mode when you start a game kicking in the GTX1660Ti which drains battery faster. This allows someone with both battery saving needs and the wants of a gaming machine to have the best of both worlds. It is much slimmer (3x atleast) than my old Alienware and MUCH lighter too! P.S. The sound was much more rich than I expected from a laptop, super awesome bonus.

Bought this for my sons online learning classes. He loves it, especially the gaming part after online class. My son is too busy on his laptop to tell me how much he really likes it. Buy it.

It's pretty good. It gets far too hot with heavy gaming.

I like how fast it is (so far) - i bought it for my design program, not for gaming, and so i was little disappointed at the lettering on the keyboard - it is geared more for a gaming enthusiast- but that is it - the keyboard lights up, which is very nice - my program works a little slow, but it is at least working and not crashing- very nice laptop, overall !

I honestly love this laptop it does everything I need it to. The only con is that the model I received doesn't have the connector to add another hard drive to it

Out of the box, this laptop was incredibly disappointing. First , the good. The build quality is amazing, you can open the laptop with one hand. It feels very solid. It's just too bad it has an obnoxious Orange ROG logo that you can't turn off. My unit encountered the infamous 0.39ghz cpu throttle bug. It would run just fine for a few minutes, then everything slows to a crawl for a few minutes before returning to normal. In addition, it felt like it overheated very quickly. It was idling at 55C, though it was during the summer in CA. While gaming, I saw it go up to 95C. It seems like the best thing to do is to update the BIOS to version 302 and the latest Nvidia drivers. To help with the thermals, you would need to open up the computer and remove the paper and metal that's covering the vents. This massively improves temperatures. No idea why Asus did this. While it's open, you also want to install at least an additional 8gb of RAM, as the Ryzen CPU works better with dual channel. Add another hard drive to this thing, and you got a solid machine on your hands. Using Ryzen Controller can further improve your experience in terms of performance. After all these tweaks, I can run Metro Exodus on high on DirectX 11 at 1440p at roughly 60fps. Not too bad! I wouldn't buy this thing for more than 899.99 because of the extra upgrades you have to add to it yourself. It's a pretty good deal at that price, but if it's more than that, I would wait if I were you. For a bit more in the 1000-1100 range, you can get something like a MSI GF65 or the 2020 Acer Nitro, both with a better video card (full powered RTX 2060 as opposed to this laptop's 1660ti max-q). Both of these aforementioned laptops can be purchased even cheaper if Amazon Warehouse has some open box or refurbished machines available. For me, I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase. Build quality is great, performance is great for general productivity, and gives a very decent gaming experience. If you want to utilize a monitor above 60hz, you'll have to use the DisplayPort, which is accessible through USB-C, which is what I did. If you're in the market for a new gaming laptop and don't mind some DIY, this could be the laptop for you. Laptops with the Nvidia 3000 series GPU's are expected to come around Q3 2021, so if you can't wait, go for it.

Overall this is an ok system but it is prone to dips in performance. If you are planning on playing games like pubg, halo, or older call of dutys youll be fine. The minute you try loading some of the more cpu intense games you will notice a very sharp decline in performance. Not what i would expect from a $1000ish dollar laptop.

Poor cooling from factory. Constant throttling and makes any game that should easily be playable unplayable. Most I can play is minecraft, gmod , and halo. I can okay fortnite and warzone for maybe 5 minutes before it gets too hot due to poor thermal compound from the factory.

Hey good afternoon my review is pretty bad actually I'm sorry. The laptop has a huge bottleneck I can't even play warzone at 40fps, one fan started sounding weird and smelling like burnt and the next day it died so now I have thermal problems, and one day my laptop turned off for 4 hours for no reason I will like to have a refund but sadly I live in venezuela so it's a huge problem. I don't want to to do public reviews because Asus is my favorite brand and it's the best but I'm very disappointed. Thank you sorry for bothering.

Dont waste your money. After less than a week it started running slow so we sent it back to Asus where they did a factory reset and that's it from what we can tell. Had it back 1 day and it flat out died. Kid did a 5ec request and they set up a ticket but never sent a shipping label.
