This laptop is very impressive. I've had one other gaming laptop in the past (not an ASUS) and it fried its own motherboard because it wasn't truly built to handle the stress that games put on computer internals. This laptop is up to the task, and I have been very impressed with its build quality and well-engineered design. Thus far it has crushed everything I've thrown at it.
I would gladly give it five stars if not for two points of criticism:
1) Since purchasing this laptop roughly a month ago, I have encountered 8-10 Blue Screens of Death (BSODs). These have likely been due to either drivers or BIOS, yet even after installing all available updates they have continued to persist. They have not ruined my experience enough to consider returning the laptop, but it has definitely been a concern. One example: while playing a game, I unplugged the (fully charged) laptop so I could bring it to my wife to show her something on screen. Within 10 seconds, the laptop got a BSOD for unexplained reasons. The MyASUS application has a neat feature to help diagnose what might be causing BSODs (and a number of other common laptop issues, from WiFi not connecting properly to slow boot times). Through the use of this feature I have installed some drivers and a couple of BIOS updates. I believe these installations have helped with the issue, but it is still unresolved.
2) This may be a contentious or unfair point. The fans on this laptop are bonkers loud when it runs on "Performance" mode. Yeah, it's a gaming laptop, so obviously the fans should be powerful in order to keep everything cool (or else it might fry its motherboard, like my old gaming laptop). That said, "Performance" mode isn't even the highest setting--that would be "Turbo," or perhaps a user-defined custom fan performance mode--but when the fans kick up, it sounds like a mini jet engine. They're so loud, in fact, that I can't clearly hear the game I'm playing unless I turn the volume up to 60-70%. They're so loud (again, in "Performance" mode) that when my laptop is on the second floor of my home, I can hear them from the first floor.
These points aside, I have been very impressed with this laptop. It's up to each individual to determine the extent to which the above points would influence your decision to purchase this laptop. If this were my primary laptop (it is not), I would probably give it 3/5 due to the continuing BSOD issue. That said, given that I'm solely using it as a gaming laptop (and maybe also some Photoshop work), I think it deserves a 4/5 for my purposes.
