I really like the gamer appeal of the swivel screen and the variety of adjustments to tilt the screen, raising, and lowering.

A couple weird features, but a solid monitor

RB November 10, 2024

This is the first new monitor I've bought since 2013 (and as of writing it is almost 2025). It's hard to be too objective when this is such a leap over my old monitor. It's bigger, brighter, higher resolution and has better refresh rates. So let's talk about the cons. For one, out of the box, this monitor had something called "Tracefree" turned on. I can't really find a whole lot of information about this online, but it seems to be some kind of anti-motion-blur filter. All it did was make my games look weird -- objects in motion would have this strange dark "halo" around them, so I turned it off. Two, this is a pretty blurry monitor. I'm used to monitors where I can turn the sharpness filter down to zero, but doing that here makes it feel like I need glasses. It's not just "soft", it makes text borderline illegible. Putting the sharpness at around 50 makes everything look normal, and I don't notice a whole lot of sharpening artifacts, so this might not even be considered a complaint. It's just a little weird. I've heard that people don't think this monitor has very good color display. I've bumped the saturation up a little bit and I think it looks fine. The main issue is when you get into setting up the high refresh rate options, which trade signal strength for smoothness. Going above 120hz seems to have a noticeable impact on brightness, contrast, and saturation. Some of that feels like it could be blamed on Windows and Nvidia drivers, or cable quality. The monitor itself looks good enough for me when its displaying properly. It's very funny to me that this monitor has crosshair modes for games that don't have their own crosshairs. It's like having a built in cheat code for games like Escape from Tarkov. I don't know if that's ethical, but it's not my place to judge, I guess. Overall, though, I am happy with the monitor. I guess you can't say much more than that.
