I purchased this antenna today hoping it would help us get our local PBS station and a few others that the rabbit ears were not picking up on our main tv. I hooked it up to our tv on the first floor but it picked up the same amount of channels as the rabbit ears. Then I plugged it in upstairs and now we are getting all of our local stations plus 7 more than we had before. There must be something blocking the signals downstairs. This antenna works great for us. Will have to find an outdoor antenna for the other tv though.
Overall I like this antenna. The quality is not cable quality, of course, but for an antenna it is not bad. The sound is excellent. The main problem is with any kind of writing on the screen. If it is larger print, it is good, but if the print is smaller (I have noticed it most on the nightly newscast) it can be difficult to impossible to make out. Also, I live very close to a busy road and sometimes, when big truck go by, it can interfere with recption for a second or so. I do like the fact that it is flat and can be hung on the wall. I think that feature is one of the main reasons I chose this antenna.
My house is a reception anomaly. Radio, cell phones and TV's get no signal. I had a rabbit-ear antenna because I was too cheap to pay for cable. But, after having to adjust them for each channel, every time, I broke down and got basic cable. I wasn't going to buy a DTV converter because I have cable and will not lose reception. But, I wanted to make sure if the day came that I didn't want to pay for cable it wouldn't mean having to buy a new TV. I did some research and I noticed that people were talking about getting HD channels, in addition to the DTV! So I figured if I could get a decent selection of channels, great picture quality, without paying for it each month, that was worth looking into. Besides, I planned on opening the packages carefully in case the claims of great TV were exaggerated. Then I would just stick with cable and return the stuff. For what I pay for 2 months of cable, I got the converter box and the antenna. I get 20 channels with flawless reception! THE ONLY ADJUSTMENTS I HAD TO MAKE WAS PLACING IT WHERE IT WASN”T BLOCKED FROM THE SIGNALS. There was none of the usual adjusting knobs and antennas like with rabbit ears. I plugged it in and it worked. It does not get any easier than that. I get ALL the local HDTV, all the DTV channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW, PBS, and some other random ones; qubo, ION, etc). My advice; First, make sure the antenna can pick up UHF/VHF, DTV and HDTV. This one does. If it doesn't, you'll probably just get the DTV channels. I don't have an HDTV, you don't need one. I assume the picture may look better, but I can't imagine how much better it could get! I can not understand how it is possible this wouldn't have worked for others. Especially since the only thing you do is plug it in! Also, not mentioned any where except inside the package, you can paint it! It's a thin, flat, light weight square. Paint it the color of your wall you'll never see it. This thing is astounding!
Antenna signals will depend a lot on where you live. This antenna works great in my area.Pulled in 23 o.t.a. channels. I did find that it does require the amplifier to work correctly ( at least where I live).Crystal clear reception and sound, and attractive profile and price. No rabbit ears to play with is a plus.
As many have said, this antenna will not perform as well as a basic set of "rabbit ears". The design is an attempt to make a more aesthetic antenna without loosing too much functionality. It works reasonably well for a cheap antenna as long as your near the broadcast source. However, it is far from omnidirectional as the manufacturer claims. Other than that there's nothing wrong with this product that I can tell. The signal amplifier seems to work well too, in my case it was required to pick up more than 2 channels. I made a mistake by picking this product, I will be returning it and purchasing a better quality model. Remember you get what you pay for, and this model is inexpensive. This product should only be purchased by those: - who can't install an outdoor antenna - find the appearance of "rabbit ears" unsightly enough to sacrifice a bit of reception quality - live very close to broadcast sources (as in can get at least some signal from stations with NO antenna)
The package is nice to be able to hang on a wall or hide away somewhere. The problem is that it works much worse than basic rabbit ears for VHF reception, even with the amplifier. This product should only be used if you are <20 miles from the TV transmitter. I couldn't test the UHF reception because where I live I get the local UHF channels even without an antenna. But, it sure didn't work at all to pick up UHF stations a little further away. I returned the unit to Walmart. If you want a really good basic antenna, the only one I was able to find that actually works is a Philips SDV2270/17. I found that one at Lowes. The SDV2270 really pulled in the VHF stations far better than three other antennas I tried, and it is far less expensive.
and get something that really does the job. This unit would not pull in as many channels as my old rabbit ears would. I thought with the RCA name it would be solid quality, but I was sadly mistaken. It might work close to the city, but it does nothing beyond that. This one is going back to the store in the morning.
This is not worth the thirty dollars i spent on it. I can pick up more channels with a cheap $10 pair of rabbit ears.
I've owned this antenna for a few weeks now and I wish now that I had returned it. I've laid it flat, angled it, hung it on the wall, and still don't receive all the stations I should. The CBS station (digital 12) is only 19 miles away and this antenna can't pick it up. Even with the amplifier plugged inline. Oddly enough the PBS station (digital 15) is 33 miles away comes in perfectly. Fox (digital 2) is only 5 miles away and nothing. Save your money and invest in a better antenna than this one.
I purchased this antenna today and was disappointed that it provided much worse reception (with and without the amplied attachment) than my broken down and taped up old rabbit ears! So, it's back to square one. I'm taking it back and will search for another pair of rabbit ears. This goes to show ya that fancier and more expensive doesn't necessarily mean "better" when it comes to electronics!
