I was able to install this at home in about an hour, following the YouTube video on the Real Truck website. That was SUPER helpful. Really pretty straightforward. Getting minimal leaks (and I think that's mostly from the gap in the existing tailgate) and I've used it now in 2/3 open and full-open positions to haul things. Looks great on my 2025 Ranger.
When I purchased my truck it had a Peragon Classic retractable cover. I grew tired of my equipment getting wet. While no coveris100% waterproof I was impressed after going through the car wash. Install . . only one glitch. . it wasn't clear that the front rail tab went in at slight angle and the snapped in. . No real issue with the install even as I did it alone. . great looks and great product. .
My only "problem" which it wasn't for my nephew was the pre-drilling of the hole in the plastic lip of the top body cover. A guide that would not require the clip be in place would have made this installation a bit easier for an old guy with kneeling issues like me. My nephew handled it with ease.
The BakFlip is a premium quality cover. I had one on a 19 Frontier and it was great. About 98% dry. I put a Gator folding cover on a 25 GMC Sierra 1500. That truck got totalled at 903 miles. I installed the Bakflip on my replacement 25 GMC Sierra 1500 last week. I prefer the matte finish on the BakFlip compared to the shiny satin finish on the Gator. Both covers required a little "tweaking" to get the latches to catch just right, The Gator design preferred that I close the tailgate with the top open. The BakFlip design works well both ways. That is I can close the tailgate with the cover open or closed. The BakFlip permits the whole folded cover to be flipped up to lean against the truck cab. This is necessary when hauling items like a motorcycle for example. In contrast the Gator cover must be removed since it does not flip up against the cab. In the past 3 months I have purchased both folding tonneau covers and installed them on identical 25 GMC 1500 Sierra pickups. While the BakFlip cost nearly twice as much, I would pay the greater amount again to have the advantages the BakFlip offers over the Gator and the Matte finish compliments my trucks trim better the the shiny satin Gator finish. For budget conscious folks the Gator is a good quality option that frankly is a better bang for the buck buy than the BakFlip. But it all comes down to preferences. The Gator was about 95% water tight. I cannot comment on the BakFlip since I've seen no rain since installation.
Cover is good overall. The instructions could be clearer on the clamping the rails down section. Overall it looks good. However I had a bumper peice fall off already. The one that sits flush on top of the cover by the cab window when not in use. Hopefully it lasts a long time.
4 inch long rubber bumpers that the cover edge sits on while fully open, not affixed very well. They were low quality adhesive. Cleaned off and used 3M trim double sided tape to fix. Stuck well now. Was disappointed to to see latches were plastic. Overall, product will work.
The installation didn't go as well as I had expected. I followed the provided instructions and the latches on the panels didn't line up correctly and wouldn't latch without me lifting the rail up. Because of the fitmet issue, it took me approximately two hours to install. The following day, I did research on the internet and found a reddit post outlining this as others experienced the same issue. Someone posted a link to a good video that showed installation with the brackets being snapped onto the rail. I removed my cover and rails and did another install snapping the brackets into the rail. The brackets are supposed to connect on the top notch but my middle brackets won't connect on the top notch so I had to connect on the bottom notch. The panels now latch as they should. I noticed that I can see some daylight in the corners of the cover by the cab, so I'll jave to put on more weather stripping in those spots. For the price, I expected better instructions.
Materials seem to be good quality. Bed cover is sturdy but does not adequately cover the bed. There are a few gaps that do not seal well. Will work well for keeping items safe from theft, but I would not recommend if you are looking for something that is watertight. It comes with drain tubes which can route a lot of water out of the bed, but a lot of water still ends up in the bed of the truck.
I originally had a cover bought off amazon and it fits perfectly. I wanted to have a stronger cover and tried this one. However, water seeps in when it rains and in carwashes. My original cover bought cheaper from amazon doesn't do that. I hope they created it a little 0. 5 longer. Waste of $$$$.
I took it to a professional install place for BakFlip. They say the parts for 2025 pro 4X was not great . They had to adjust finally got it to shut. But they told me today to reach out to you and say it not a normal installation. ( I try to reach customer service but it was a 30 plus min wait. Today 6/4/25
