My only "problem" which it wasn't for my nephew was the pre-drilling of the hole in the plastic lip of the top body cover. A guide that would not require the clip be in place would have made this installation a bit easier for an old guy with kneeling issues like me. My nephew handled it with ease.
I needed a new cover for my new Denali pickup. I shopped many other brands and watched many videos on other covers. I decided to buy the the BAKFlip MX4 cover. I watch videos on how to install it and it installed pretty easy. Took me about an hour and a half because I am so particular. I love the way the cover looks. I also like how it folds. It locks down each section. You can also fold it up against the window to give you all the bedspace. I am very happy with my purchase.
The BakFlip is a premium quality cover. I had one on a 19 Frontier and it was great. About 98% dry. I put a Gator folding cover on a 25 GMC Sierra 1500. That truck got totalled at 903 miles. I installed the Bakflip on my replacement 25 GMC Sierra 1500 last week. I prefer the matte finish on the BakFlip compared to the shiny satin finish on the Gator. Both covers required a little "tweaking" to get the latches to catch just right, The Gator design preferred that I close the tailgate with the top open. The BakFlip design works well both ways. That is I can close the tailgate with the cover open or closed. The BakFlip permits the whole folded cover to be flipped up to lean against the truck cab. This is necessary when hauling items like a motorcycle for example. In contrast the Gator cover must be removed since it does not flip up against the cab. In the past 3 months I have purchased both folding tonneau covers and installed them on identical 25 GMC 1500 Sierra pickups. While the BakFlip cost nearly twice as much, I would pay the greater amount again to have the advantages the BakFlip offers over the Gator and the Matte finish compliments my trucks trim better the the shiny satin Gator finish. For budget conscious folks the Gator is a good quality option that frankly is a better bang for the buck buy than the BakFlip. But it all comes down to preferences. The Gator was about 95% water tight. I cannot comment on the BakFlip since I've seen no rain since installation.
4 inch long rubber bumpers that the cover edge sits on while fully open, not affixed very well. They were low quality adhesive. Cleaned off and used 3M trim double sided tape to fix. Stuck well now. Was disappointed to to see latches were plastic. Overall, product will work.
Installation was much more difficult for the Maverick than what is indicated in the Realtruck video. For $1200 it would have been helpful for an instruction sheet specifically for this model to be included. The tolerances for the Bakflip are so precise that any small imperfections in the truck bed are problematic. The drivers side latched perfectly but the passenger side would not latch for all three latches. Yes, the railing was installed correctly and identically on both sides. Determined that the truck bed was slightly leaning in on the passenger side. Had to correct by placing a flat washer as a shim under each latching mechanism. Also, the thick pads included to protect the cab are not thick enough for the Maverick. When the bed cover is flipped up it rests on the cab and the pads do not reach the cab. The rear window is recessed from the cab frame and the pads do not reach the window. The only place where the pads would actually work are on the very edge of the cover, and then it would not be able to close.
I specifically order this because it stated “rapid ship” and indicated it would ship on the day I placed the order. I waited for 4 days and there was no shipping information. It took forever to get through to customer service who could not resolve the issue. I waited a couple more days and was finally told it would ship the next day. Then I had and issue with one of the rubber bumpers that came off and again called customer service who said they would refer it to the BakFlip team and they would reach out to me. That was last week and I have yet to hear back from anyone.
It was very Disappointing or may be my expectations were to high!!!. . . never got the cover to latch naturally and properly unless you help it or force it ( is not the way it supposed to work ) the clips that holds the bed cover tight with the railing interfere with the hardware ( ended up both line up in the same spot ) plastic clips on the end of over railing sistem comes loose pretty easy ( not supposed to be like that ) installation were rate as easy to install ( turned into a headache ) got me working on it over 3 times. In Resume. Overall quality i think was poor ( I could expect that from an unbranded product from Amazon or so ) not from the a top saller product
This company knowingly shipped me the bakflip mx4 with rails that didn't fit my truck (2024 Tacoma 5') with zero communication. When I contacted them they say the rails are under review and no ship date is planned. Total scam! Do not buy from these folks and stay away from bakflip if you plan to actually have this system on your truck
I set a tire on top and drove around the building, which is about 200 yards and that's a big circular scratch on it. I didn't realize I was buying something with such a soft surface where I wouldn't have. Truck denied my request to return it even though they have the monopoly the industry. I'm not impressed.
This isn't a review of the cover because you never sent it to me. A week after I ordered the cover it still showed as Pending Fulfillment. I called customer service and they said they'd get back to me. A week later they still hadn't gotten back to me so I bought the same cover from another online retailer and got it the next day. I cancelled the order from Realtruck and it still shows as Pending cancellation. I called customer service and was told they'd take care of it. Two days later there's no change. I won't be buying anything from Realtruck in the future.
