I needed a new cover for my new Denali pickup. I shopped many other brands and watched many videos on other covers. I decided to buy the the BAKFlip MX4 cover. I watch videos on how to install it and it installed pretty easy. Took me about an hour and a half because I am so particular. I love the way the cover looks. I also like how it folds. It locks down each section. You can also fold it up against the window to give you all the bedspace. I am very happy with my purchase.
The BakFlip is a premium quality cover. I had one on a 19 Frontier and it was great. About 98% dry. I put a Gator folding cover on a 25 GMC Sierra 1500. That truck got totalled at 903 miles. I installed the Bakflip on my replacement 25 GMC Sierra 1500 last week. I prefer the matte finish on the BakFlip compared to the shiny satin finish on the Gator. Both covers required a little "tweaking" to get the latches to catch just right, The Gator design preferred that I close the tailgate with the top open. The BakFlip design works well both ways. That is I can close the tailgate with the cover open or closed. The BakFlip permits the whole folded cover to be flipped up to lean against the truck cab. This is necessary when hauling items like a motorcycle for example. In contrast the Gator cover must be removed since it does not flip up against the cab. In the past 3 months I have purchased both folding tonneau covers and installed them on identical 25 GMC 1500 Sierra pickups. While the BakFlip cost nearly twice as much, I would pay the greater amount again to have the advantages the BakFlip offers over the Gator and the Matte finish compliments my trucks trim better the the shiny satin Gator finish. For budget conscious folks the Gator is a good quality option that frankly is a better bang for the buck buy than the BakFlip. But it all comes down to preferences. The Gator was about 95% water tight. I cannot comment on the BakFlip since I've seen no rain since installation.
I really tried my best with help to make the side rail square with bed sides. The foam strip seems to put the rail at an angle. I loosened/tighted the rails to no avail. The cover does leak but not excessively but it leaks. Any advice would be appreciated. S.
Cover is good overall. The instructions could be clearer on the clamping the rails down section. Overall it looks good. However I had a bumper peice fall off already. The one that sits flush on top of the cover by the cab window when not in use. Hopefully it lasts a long time.
Materials seem to be good quality. Bed cover is sturdy but does not adequately cover the bed. There are a few gaps that do not seal well. Will work well for keeping items safe from theft, but I would not recommend if you are looking for something that is watertight. It comes with drain tubes which can route a lot of water out of the bed, but a lot of water still ends up in the bed of the truck.
Cover was missing installation components …needed to wait on that . One of the clips on the rail is broken it has been sitting in FedEx “shipping label created” for a week. Really slow to just get it fully functional . Ensuring the install kit is complete replacing things broken in shipment should not take so long Bak is really slow
It was very Disappointing or may be my expectations were to high!!!. . . never got the cover to latch naturally and properly unless you help it or force it ( is not the way it supposed to work ) the clips that holds the bed cover tight with the railing interfere with the hardware ( ended up both line up in the same spot ) plastic clips on the end of over railing sistem comes loose pretty easy ( not supposed to be like that ) installation were rate as easy to install ( turned into a headache ) got me working on it over 3 times. In Resume. Overall quality i think was poor ( I could expect that from an unbranded product from Amazon or so ) not from the a top saller product
I tried to communicate this with Realtruck, but there was too much red tape to make it worthwhile. There is a MAJOR issue with the written instructions that come with the cover that I purchased. No where in the instructions does it say that the clamps that hold the rail onto the bed should snap into the rail. If you don't snap them into the rail then the whole thing does not work at all. It will not latch and close up. I had to search Youtube in order to find this.
This cover does not align properly for all latches to click into place with out manually pressing up on the rails and down on the cover at the same time. It requires modification to the bed of a 2025 tundra for the drain hose to fit. It also leaks significantly from the corners closest to the cab which causes water to puddle where the drain hose goes through the bed. The water will not drain from the bed because the hose occupies the drain holes. I had a gator cover and never had these issues. I have reached out to Real Truck and BAK for support but was told by BAK that I had to go through Real Truck but website says same company. Real Truck is unresponsive.
Well let's see. It's been over a month since I placed my order. When I placed my order, the product was supposedly in stock and ready to ship. Still nothing. I am going to cancel my order and get the same bed cover from someone else. But since you asked for a review, here it is.
