Ballistic Overreach Boot X-Large

Our TB was forever pulling/mangling shoes and injuring himself during turnout (recently requiring stitches and four weeks stall rest!) so we needed something better to protect his front feet.These are just the thing! They have worked wonderfully and he has not been able to fiddle with them and get them off! They seem very durable and protect the entire back of the heel down to the ground in the back and do not swivel around. As others have noted, they do run small so make sure you order up. We needed XL for our rather slender legged 16hh TB.

These boots have been a staple in my barns for years. They're my first choice for overreach boots, well-made and durable. I've had them on horses of all sizes and all manner of traveling. I ride nearly every athletic dressage horse with these boots on their front feet. Something to consider, though: when you go up in size for a wide foot, you are also increasing the length in the back of these boots. Depending on the angles of your horse's feet and how you keep them trimmed/shod, larger boots will almost certainly be too long. Too-long boots will be stepped on by your horse, and could cause bruising on the heel and back of pastern, and excess wear on the boot. For one 17.3h horse with hooves the size of dinner plates, I had to order XXL boots and then have them altered by a blanket repair shop to be cut and re-hemmed in the back to be shorter. It added some time and expense to the initial purchase of the boot, but was well worth it in fit. Now I have Medium boots on my 16h 4-yr-old Warmblood with average feet. They fit, but could definitely not be any smaller. A particularly rambunctious bucking spree during turnout in deep footing can dislodge the boots off her feet, but it's not very often. I considered upsizing her to a Large boot to create a more secure fit in the velcro, but the Large boots are much too long unless I have them altered. Well-fitted boots will last me about 2 years of every day workouts in various footings. By then the edges will be worn and frayed enough to consider replacing, but will still protect the heel well enough from overreach.

This is my second pair of these boots. I love that when they are placed they do not turn or rotate as my horse works. They have worn very well and wash well. My first pair has a lot of life in them yet, but I wanted an extra pair on hand for when I take them home to wash. Not sure how they could improve these boots.

I love these Bell Boots! After making the mistake of trying to ride my horse in Davis PVC bellboots, he was left with a pastern rub. Not to mention the awful flop flop flop sound of a plastic or rubber bell boot while riding. These bell boots (when properly fitted) are silent and do their job very well! I RARELY get off after an hour ride and see the boot turned. This is HUGE for me as I know they're staying in the exact place they belong to provide the most protection. Make sure you size UP. My horse is 16.1 with a size 2 shoe, and I ordered XL in these when he typically would take a size L. The XL fits perfectly.

I needed over reach boots and bought these.They fit well and stay in place. I ordered large size and had to return them as they were too small. I reordered 2xl and that was a fit. Not sure if they come up small or I don't know how big my horses feet are. Probably the latter. Any way they were changed with no problems.

These are excellent bell boots. Take a licking as turnout boots & come back for more. I ordered purple so I could find them when my horse finds a magical way to remove them in the field, and the color is lovely. Only reason I can't give these 5 stars is that I don't comprehend how the sizing could be so crazy!! I ordered an XL for my 15.1 hand horse with pretty average/small feet and they BARELY fit. These aren't an option for my 16.3 warmblood.

They seem really nice, but run quite small. I have a 16'2 hh Hanoverian mare, and just sent back the L (which were not just a little small, but waaaay too small,) and am getting the XXL now. Seem like great quality though, once the sizing is dialed in. They do tell you the explicit measurements in the description- I am accustomed to simply ordering size L in boots/wraps for my normal sized mare. Oops.

I ordered a size Large for my 15.2 1100 lb. "usually size Medium", Quarter Horse mare. You will want to size up, as suggested in previous reviews. These are well made, a nice fit and if you snug them up they do not turn. Good coverage across the heel and on the sides. Worked well for my mare who was pulling her shoes off because she needed the sides of her shoes set "out" for hoof re-growth.

I bought these boots about 6 months ago, and my horse wore them only for work in hand on the ground and some light riding (he is a baby, so nothing strenuous happening on the exercise front). He does not have shoes on, but still managed to completely destroy the binding at the bottom edge of the boot which started coming off about a month into using them. Just threw them away today. They have a weird fit that sits really high and barely covers the delicate bits at the front of the hoof, despite their little pad intended to stop them from turning round the foot they still turn all the time. They didn't rub and they are lovely and thick so when your horse has a habit of standing on one hoof with the other everything is well protected, just the boot won't last. I had an XXL for my warmblood that usually takes an XL in other brands, and I could barely close them. I am always going to be tempted to buy them again because they are so well padded and protective, but the fit and quality will probably stop me for this horse. The good thing about them being so high on the foot is that the horse cannot step in one boot with the other and trip like with rubber bell boots. A TB in my barn has these and they fit and stay the right way round just fine, so it must be my horse.

I am really disappointed with these. I've been using them for 6 weeks and they're falling apart. I only have 1 horse, and I ride him 3 or 4 times a week. He is also lunged in these and turned out in them for few minutes after the ride. But in less than 30 uses they are trashed. The Velcro still works but they are fraying everywhere, not just near the heel. The Pro Choice logo fell off of one boot. I'll probably go back to using the cheap ones I've had for years that still work and even look better at this point.
