this is a crazy good bargain. Banquet food is not going to win awards for having the most flavor, but Salisbury steak is not steak anyway. As a tiny Southern lady I can eat several meals off the package. Just cook or heat up some Mac and cheese or whip up some instant mashed potatoes. I am addicted to the garlic ones. Add some green stuff, and there you go.This is quite the savings. :-)
For a frozen meal, this ended up being much more filling than I expected. The portion size is generous, and the combination of Salisbury steak, gravy, and mashed potatoes makes it feel more like a full comfort-style meal rather than just a quick snack. The flavor was better than I anticipated for this type of frozen dinner, especially once heated evenly. One thing I always remind people with frozen meals is that microwave times are not always exact because every microwave heats differently. I personally see the time on the box more as a starting point or general guideline rather than something guaranteed to work perfectly in every microwave. What helped me get a much better result was stopping halfway through heating, turning the meat over so it heated more evenly, and stirring the mashed potatoes before finishing. It is an extra step, but for me it made a noticeable difference in both texture and temperature. The meal came out much more evenly heated instead of having some spots overly hot while others stayed cooler. The gravy also helped keep the meat from tasting dry, and the mashed potatoes had a smoother texture after being stirred well during heating. For anyone wanting a larger frozen meal that feels hearty and satisfying, this is a practical option to keep in the freezer for busy days when cooking a full meal is not realistic.
I like the banquet Salisbury steak meals that she put in the microwave because it's a quick night if you don't feel like cooking you could just pop in the microwave makes it easy especially if you don't feel like cooking there's sometimes I don't feel like cooking and if I have some of those I just pop them in the microwave makes it easier for me
I figured I'd try something new from Banquet and landed on this Salisbury Steak one. Its made with a chicken, beef and pork blend (3 whole freaking patties of that) and then has regular buttered mashed potatoes (MAYBE 3 spoonfuls - TOPS). So, knowing everything I do after eating these types of microwave meals for years, after the first 5 mins in the mic, I added pepper to the meat and pepper and garlic salt to the mashed potatoes, left it to heat another 5 mins and cooled for another 3. And holy cow, let me tell you, this is by far the BEST Salisbury steak and potatoes ive ever tried. I dont think I even needed the extra seasoning. So, next time ill nix it and try it as it is, cuz the sauce on the meat was freaking amazing with a savory mellow flavor, the meat easily to cut with a plastic fork and the potatoes were creamy like they should be. Just to clarify, all these potatoes ever are, are potato flakes, mixed and flash frozen with the rest of the meal - just fyi - which is why I usually air on the side of caution and add seasoning, but i think these potatoes are Idahoan dried mashed buttery homestyle, because theyre identical in flavor. Overall, aside from the fact the whole meal is 750 calories (omg), its so dang good that id actually be sad if Banquet ever got rid of this RTE meal winner. This is an actual meal that has a crap ton of flavor and not cardboard, which is whats typical of RTE and Lean Cruisine Meals without copious amounts of seasoning. This meal, straight, exceeds expectations. Seriously, try this one, you'll actually like it.
My favorite banquet meal. The 3 slices of meat are thick and well flavored. The mashed potatoes are a little thin but I like thick potatoes so that's more me than the meal, they do need salt and pepper added. Biggest draw back is not enough gravy. In the red box version there is lots of gravy enough to mix into the potatoes. This version there is just enough for the meat and sometimes even that is barely enough. Still great flavor a portion size.
The salisbury steaks are the stars of the show, very big portion size and very flavorful. The only reason I knocked one star off was due to the portion size of the mashed potatoes, after heating, it just turns into a couple of bites worth. Needs about 1/3 more to actually make sense.
I like Banquet entrees, they taste good and they're cheaper than other brands. But I didn't really care for this one. I'm pretty picky when it comes to processed meat, and didn't like the Salisbury steak. I would still recommend trying it though. It seems to be a pretty popular item, so I'm sure there are a lot of people who really like it.
i bought this for my husband since he wanted Salisbury steak and i don't have a way to make it and for reference he eats almost anything. He was very unimpressed! He actually took 2 bites to prove to me that he tried it but he couldn't help but make a face that spoke volumes!
Stouffer's has gone the way of all greedy, irresponsible Food Manufacturers ; adding Phosphates to thicken their Product! Uck! Phosphates were originally used to thicken and add weight to dry clothes detergent! Stouffer's too cheap to have used a little Corn Starch instead! Very disappointed in them!
I grew up on dinners such as these and my word how the quality has suffered. This meal has a texture and smell that is just revolting. I ate it. Immediately felt gross. Faster than McD's hitting your stomach after 5 minutes. I'm positive, in fact, can say for certain that a higher quality canned dog food would have been better than this meal. Never again will I buy this product. It should be illegal to even try and serve people this kind of food.
