I was reluctant to order this for delivery, thought it might have a lot of fat or in general not be quality meat. But - I was pleasantly surprised. I use it more often in fall and winter months. It cooks faster than a roast but is tender and has good flavor. I just put it in a crock pot with seasonings, celery, and minced garlic, let it cook awhile then add carrots, onion, and potatoes. Bake some biscuits, either canned or frozen - and tada - the house smells yummy and dinners ready!
Fantastic quick meal. Follow directions on: Great Value Beef Stew Seasoning Mix, 1.5 oz, about browning meat. drain one can Veg-All Homestyle Large Cut Vegetables, 29 oz., into a measuring cup ad water to 3 cups. Follow the rest of the instructions on the Great Value Beef Stew Seasoning Mix.
Perfect amount for a family size of four adults. Versatile pack for a multitude of various recipes. Consistent and uniform cuts… I've used this pack for beef, Consistent and uniform cuts… I've used this pack for beef tips and gravy, red chili, beef, steak topped baked potatoes – just a few examples of recipes I've made.
This Ol' bachelor made a Vat-O-Stew for me and mine with the meat. Used a lot of the other products I rated and bought. Canned: peas, carrots, new potatoes, diced mushrooms, and; sliced celery stalks, green onions, whole white onions, sliced, minced garlic and beef bullion cubes and argus corn starch. That's a whole heck of a lot of other products plugged for "W"! Oh, and water from the tap! The only caution is make sure you really cook the meat a long, long time. Otherwise you'll be saying this old guy is nuts with his ratings for this meat.
I cooked this stew meat for a long time to make Chile Colorado but it was dry because it lacked fat. Made Spanish rice with lots of tomato sauce %26 potato salad %26 the mayo helped give moisture to the bite of meat. Husband liked it %26 I ate it just wish it wasn't so dry %26 hard to chew. Perhaps for a gravy stew simmered to death would make a good meal.
Was disappointed. Normally would have bought a London broil and cut up. Won’t buy stew meat again. Quite a few pieces were stringy. Quite a few pieces had that big hard fat present. Saw a recipe which used stew meat and will go back to buying a pricey piece rather than this. This meat should have gone into the grinder for hamburger meat. Yuck.
Do not order this via delivery. Today is 10/25/2025. It’s obvious the product is within its expiration time. However, this meet is both brown and green. The smell is absolutely nauseating and I haven’t even opened the packaging. Why on earth would the picker select this? If you sent this to someone who literally didn’t know any better, you’re asking for them to get sick. Do better Walmart! Now, Walmart did refund me. That’s appreciated. But what good is a refund doing me to cook my dinner right now? I do delivery for the convenience and the need for it “right now”. So, now, I’m gonna have to change the menu completely or go to the store and repurchase. My local Walmart has got to get it together. This is simply unacceptable.
I’m very disappointed in this cut up beef stew! I paid $18. for almost 2 lbs. that’s taking me over an hour to cut up. At $9. and more a pound, I shouldn’t have to be doing this. That’s why I paid extra so it would be cut up. Very sad!!
Haven't purchased "stew beef" for a very long time. I was accustomed to large chunks, tough meat and fat. This stuff was so many little tiny pieces, less than a pea, a half inch long piece less than the diameter of a pencil, on and on. Next time, I will spend more, buy the cheapest roast, and cut it up. I get that quality of so many items has gone down, prices up while amount of product gets smaller, but would never have though these little bits of meat would be this costly and called "stew beef". Just skip this stuff. You need to cook stew beef for hours and this stuff is not worth the time or the money.
I bought this for beef stew... The sizes are way too small for the beef stew, but that wasn't the issue. These were so hard and dried out when finished cooking that it was hard to eat them. It must be some kind of lean meat they use, but it sure isn't stew meat.
