This was a great Friday evening fun thing to do. Every Friday is pizza & game night but we decided to do something different. The instructions were super easy. The markers were bright and some of our favorite colors. It’s only been about about an hour. Can’t wait to see what the crystals look like in the morning
This National Geographic Crystal Growing Kit is easy to do and comes complete with everything you need to create two crystal trees. You get two trays stands 2 trees, 5 colored washable markers, and 1 bottle of crystal growing liquid. The instructions are straightforward so that an 8 year old and up with supervision can easily create these crystal trees in about 30 minutes and after 6-8 hours the crystal trees will be complete. I love how this comes with a learning guide so you and your child (children) can learn how crystals are formed. I also like how National Geographic even included a Geode specimen inside. Overall a great Stem Kit that's not only educational but fun too!
This Crystal Garden by National Geographic came in a nice box. The box included materials to make 2 crystal trees, which is perfect to share between siblings. Also, there was a learning guide and a genuine little geode included. No additional tools or materials needed extra The set is suitable for age 8+, but my kids 5 and 7 years old made the trees easily with my little help. The trees started to grow almost immediately, and in the morning, there were beautiful crystal trees, and the kids were excited. This is a nice set to learn more about crystals and spend some quality time with kids.
This review is for the National Geographic Crystal Garden. This is a really cool STEM experiment for all ages, myself included. The kit comes with two trees a stand for each tree, four markers, crystal growing solution and a crystal as a keepsake. The instructions are very clear and simple with pictures. The first step is to color the trees. The markers are vibrant colors but run out rather quickly so I suggest having other markers on hand. Be sure to color both sides of each tree for the full effect. You get two different types of trees with two pieces to each tree. Once both sides of both trees are colored, you slide them together, put in the stand and pour half the crystal growing solution over one tree and half over the other tree. The coloring process takes the longest because how you color your trees is going to be the color the crystals grow, this is the creative process. Once the growing solution is over the trees put in a safe place. Crystals will start to grow in about thirty minutes. We checked them about twelve hours and the trees were fully covered. Overall I really liked this product it was fun for children and adults. The markers could come with more ink but this isn't such a big deal overall. I would use this product again or buy for a gift.
As a homeschool family, we are always looking for things to add to lessons to make it more interesting. This hands on kit on making crystals is one for the books for sure. Easy to use and great instructions included. Perfect example of chemical change and reactions in real time. Educational values to the side, even for fun this kit will have kids asking to make more. Definitely happy with the product and would suggest to any parent looking for wholesome fun and learning all wrapped up into one.
Such a simple and fun project for kids and parents. I’m actually surprised how easy this was to do. It also wasn’t very messy at all considering most of these things require a lot of cleanup afterwords. The instructions were really simple and we also learned a lot in the process. We each got our own tree to decorate and design. I was shocked within about 30 minutes it already started to grow. We did it at night so the next day we went back and looked and it was completely fuzzy. This project was fun for everybody in the house. It’s really fascinating and I am still shocked at how fast it grew.
My little girl loved this project! So fun and easy! The crystals grew very fast. Comes with cardboard trees that you color with markers and the crystals that form are the color of the markers you use. We did ours multi colored and they looks awesome! Fun project!
This is a fun science kit that has everything needed to create two trees. The project is simple and my 8 year old was able to figure it out himself. The markers are not the best quality, so he wound up using our own washable markers. The crystals started growing nearly right away, and by the next morning the tree was fully grown. My son was a bit disappointed that the crystals were a foam material rather than real crystals, but he had a fun time with it regardless!
We really had high hopes for this, maybe too high. The product does what it says but the "crystals" that grow are foam that disappear in your fingers. I guess the tradeoff from the hard crystal experiments is that this one happens quickly, which was fun! The colors blend so you can't have details. The only thing that was a COMPLETE fail was the geode specimen! In my pic it's in the little bag and it looks like a chip of dirt! I do recommend this for the fun of how fast the "crystals" grow.
I liked this NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Crystal Growing Garden for the most part. I did love watching the trees grow. My daughter loved coloring the trees and watching them grow also. The only part that we did not like was only two of the colors showed up for both trees. I would recommend these NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Crystal Growing Garden kits to any kid wanting a neat project.
