Belle Chemical Sodium Hydroxide - Pure - Food Grade (Caustic Soda, Lye) (2 Pound Jar)

I am enjoying my sourdough journey and this product really helped me out. I'm learning to make large sourdough pretzels and this made all the difference. Came with all the proper warning instructions, which helped me know that this was a serious product meant to do a serious job. I stored it well and I will be using it often to make sourdough pretzels at home.

I used this to coat pretzel dough before baking. This is much preferred to a baking soda wash, but you must be careful, do not get caustic soda on anything but the pretzels. Use rubber gloves, wear protection. Search for German lye soft pretzels.

the product is good, i have used it to make several batches of cp soap, with good results. my concern is with shipping. sodium hydroxide (lye) is caustic, can burn upon contact with skin, can cause loss of vision if it gets in your eyes. the product ( 2, 2lb bottles) arrived packed in a bubble mailer and nothing else. there was a hole in the mailer and i could feel loose granules inside so immediately washed my hands and put on gloves to unpack it. packing products like this for shipping should be much more secure. the lye bottles should at least have been inside a bag inside the bubble mailer. a hazardous chemicals sticker would have also been a good idea. nevermind that this package was dropped at my house by a woman that jumped out the side of a grey minivan that took off before she had the door closed. i know we are in the preholiday season in the midst of a worker shortage, so things are a bit crazy. i just dont want anybody to get hurt handling packages that should be packed better. especially if it is so easily prevented.

Good container and good product from what I can tell. 2 pounds is quite a bit. I use this for soap making and everything turned to as expected. The container is a nice thick plastic and the lid attaches well so I do not worry about product falling out.

i use it for bagel making it, it work out perfect.

I use this to clean my cast iron cookware once a year. Works really well. Great price and prompt delivery. Very good.

We make home made soap and like the fact it is food grade quality. The soap turns out perfect every time it is very dependable and reaches temp over 180 degree.

It's absolutely ridiculous this isn't carried in stores anymore and has to be ordered. I called the company, this is Walmart's decision, not theirs.
