I have been crocheting for several years, but on a limited budget. I have a preference for natural fibers but most projects are done in acrylics to fit my pocket book. I am always looking for sales to purchase yarn at the lowest possible price. When I found the Bernat Softee Chunky online at a bargain price, I decided to buy enough for at least one afghan. I bought 5 skeins each of 5 different colors, confident that I could return them if I didn't like the quality. They arrived very nicely packaged, in a good box with each color separately bagged in plastic. The colors were so vibrant, I could hardly believe it was acrylic! Each roll has over 100 yards, a very good count for a bulky yarn, since many have only 66 to 88 yards. I took out a roll to try right away. I found it to have a nice soft feel with a good loft but didn't split like many of the "soft" acrylics. This yarn is the right balance in size as well. My first scarf worked up quickly, but with stitch definition more like a worsted weight (#4). I will definitely buy this yarn again! Wal-Mart's regular price is a great buy for this easy to work yarn!
What can I say, the pattern called for this yarn and it is a good yarn! Walmart has it competitively priced. The colors I needed were not in stock in my local store. I hated to wait for it, but I did get exactly what I needed. I ordered site to store.
I had some of this yarn from a couple of years ago and thought that I would order more to continue make an afghan. I was worried the dye lot would be different and it was fine but the wool is now 11% thicker - so note that if you are using it with old yarn of this type (I think I probably bought the old stuff about 2013). I had been using double thickness and now that was too thick, so I had to undo and go with single thickness with the new yarn. Anyway, it's a nice colour and although it's only acrylic, I am happy with the result.
My little grandson wanted me to knit a "Nana" blanket for him, but having carpal tunnel makes knitting very difficult. However, I found this great yarn and large needles and am able to knit without too much pain. He is thrilled, and now I am working on one for his sister. Nice yarn.
This is a very soft but substantial yarn that works up quickly. I'm using it for an afghan, which I'm sure will be very comfy/cozy--not at all itchy. I'm sure it would be wonderful for sweaters, as well.
we buy alot of yarn, and donate the items to different charities, so price really matters. walmart has stepped up to the point, that i check there first before i buy any yarn any where else! thanks walmart
This yarn is a great weight for completing projects quickly. It is not the softest of yarns for wearable projects, but the length makes it ideal for scarves and other items that require lots of one color. I use Softee Chunky yarn in many projects and have no complaints!
I bought this yarn because I was making a chunky baby blanket for a little girl - and this was the only brand that had a chunky yarn in baby pink. It is very soft, but Not as soft and smooth and luxurious as I hoped for, but it worked up quick. Was hoping for softness like Lion Brand Hometown USA type yarn. Anyways, bernat softee Looks great, held together nicely while working with it. Good quality yarn. And the price was unbeatable. I will buy all of my yarn from Walmart from now on!!
Yarn is very soft . I crochet a scarf for my friend she loves it . Its cozy too helps to sat warm in chilled weather. She loves it. That's why I am happy.
I've used this type of yarn for a few different projects and I've come back to it again and again. It keeps its shape when knit and doesn't get all fuzzy or become loose.
