Bernzomatic Universal Basic Pencil Flame Adjustable Torch

Mine had done .b.a. work and decided to call it quits. Would light it and a flame would burn for maybe a minute then simply die. Previously it had been unable to use the last half of the gas in the canisters. Dismantled the torch and found it had a pressure regulator in the bottom. Unscrewed that, put it in a vice and carefully drilled out the filter that's pressed into the top of it. Removed the spring and valve and presto, the torch works like a charm! Suggestion for Bernzomatic: ditch the spring and valve from the pressure regulator in the bottom. The rest of the unit is brilliant.

Works great until you knock it over and the tip breaks, which wouldn't be a big deal but they don't sell them. Have had several of these, all worked great until they inevitably fell over and the tip broke.

It worked twice. And now it burns out the small holes on the side (4) and will not burn out the tip as it should.

it works fine for a very short time.... then you can't turn the gas knob anymore cause it gets too hard to turn, and i have very strong hands. It takes a lot to turn it now, and the flame has gone down to barley coming out of the end ....my wife hasn't a chance of turning it. It is not dirty inside...its just the way it is. ive gone through 3 of them and they are all the same way! I have searched and asked google every way i could think of to see if its safe to unscrew the knob and maybe oil the shaft, but i can't find out on by googling. Its one of those times google should just say that it doesn't know.

I use this less than 5 times a year and is kept in a safe spot for storage the rest of the time. It stopped working one day. I would turn the knob, but no gas would come out. This goes to show you that this is a low quality item. I would NOT buy this again.

Flame is burning very small inside the tube. Won't even light a piece of paper. Had it for a few months and the flame kept getting smaller. And yes it is a new bottle. Something very wrong with the torch. Wish I knew of the reviews first. Piece of crap. '/

What size orifice is this supposed to have? Bought 2 over a year ago and just got around to unpacking them for a project. They won't light and seems as they don't have a hole. Now I'm gunna have to buy 2 more tomorrow and I'll be stuck with these pieces of scrap unless I can find out what size to drill them out to.

the first one I bought had a flame about a 1/2 tall and wouldn't heat anything so I threw it in the trash. So, I bought another one because I thought it was a fluke that I got a bad one, I have been using these torches for years. But the second one has a weak flame about 4" long that was half blue and half red with no adjustment and no heat. Not sure I want to try a third one. That is too bad because this was a trusted brand for me.

This is the second UL2317 that I have purchased to replace a classic model I had from the 1970's My original classic1970's version lasted for over 40 years and finally wore out. These UL2317 look very similar but don't work like the classic one did. The valve worked easily when first purchased but both froze up after only a few uses and cannot be turned on and off easily and eventually won't work even if you use a tool to turn the valve on or off. Worthless now. Nothing like my original.
