Better Homes & Gardens Cream 16-Piece Dinnerware Set by Dave & Jenny Marrs

The Better Homes and Garden dishes arrived overnight. The cream set of two tone microwave dishes were extremely well packaged!! I feel these plates and bowls are of excellent quality and a true value for the money. The lower half of the dishes do have a contrasting color and a very slight texture to them, but I would not call it sandpaper like an other review listed here. I highly recommend this set of dishes, kudos for all the safety effort that went into planning with the packaging. Nicely done, I was happy there were no chips or cracks.

I was apprehensive about ordering these but I am very thankful I did. I have honestly wanted this type of two toned dinnerware for years now. I unpacked and placed them in my dishwasher immediately. No crazing!! I love the size of them as well because they are slightly larger than average stoneware dinner sets. Additionally, I stack them in a "two over two patter on either side of my cupboard. They don't scratch and have yet to chip. I love these so much that I am currently saving to purchase the Better Homes and Gardens Sofa by Dave and Jenny Marrs.

Absolutely love these! I did get some that came a slightly different color so im waiting to hear back from customer service on that. Other than that these are so cute and worth it! They feel pricey and expensive but they are affordable!

The color is matte which has a nice, expensive look. Heavy plates and pasta bowls appreciated much more than coffee cups that I have plenty of. Sandy bottom on dishes, so not sure how I’ll like in long term. One bowl arrived broken and I was offered 15% off.

The Better Homes & Gardens dave jenny Marrs collection of dinnerware included in this 16-piece set includes four dinner plates, four salad plates, four dinner bowls, and four cereal bowls. All of the pieces are dishwasher and microwave safe. The four dinner bowls are very generous in size, 8.15 inches diameter and holding 35.85 ounces. These can easily be used as serving bowls for side dishes. The set of dinner bowls and cereal bowls is two toned with a lovely creamy color inside and on the outside halfway down the sides is the same creamy matte finish glazed surface. The bottom half of the bowls are a rough pottery-like beige unfinished surface. The dinner plates and salad plates are creamy lightly speckled inside just like the bowls, but the difference with the plates is that the outside surface is completely the rough clay pottery surface. The unfinished pottery-like surface is very organic, earthy and has a rough feel. One negative of this is when you stack dishes in the cupboard. If you place a bowl with rough bottom surface in a smooth interior finish dinner or salad plate, you can end up with very tiny gray marks on the surface of the smooth creamy interiors. They did not come out when hand washed or when run through the dishwasher. The marks are very small and not very noticeable unless you look for it, but the solution is not to stack the rough surface dish in the smooth surface dish. Also, if you dry your dishes with a dish towel, the lint of the dishtowel sticks slightly to the rough pottery surface. Overall, the dinnerware is lovely, and I like the feel of the rough surfaces, but wish they were just a bit less rough to avoid etching marks on other dishes. I really like the curved sides, giving depth to the dishware as well.

These dishes really are so pretty! I love everything from the unique, deep shapes to the earthy colors. There's a small leaf detail pressed into the side of each dish that really sets them apart but is very classy. They're very heavy and substantial. I actually loved that about them but my mother in law said they were almost too heavy for her aging wrists - something to think about. I haven't had them long enough to have dropped them (knock on wood!) so I can't tell if the heavy ceramic is going to hold up well or break easily because it would fall so hard. All that said, these are probably getting donated or I'm considering packing them back up with paper between them to be used as overflow dishes at family holidays, etc. They're supposed to have that raw ceramic feel around the bottom and that's one of that things that makes them so pretty. The problem is they are so rough that they're scratching themselves and my other bowls and plates like crazy if I stack them. It's like running sandpaper across the dishes and is actually pretty frustrating. I've had other dishes similar to this but I've never had this issue. Overall they're very pretty I love the feel of them but I just don't think they're made for daily usage.

In terms of design, this set lives up to my expectations of BH%26G products. I appreciate that the set includes pasta bowls instead of mugs. The packaging was superior. Quality-wise, it is an utter failure. The first time I used a dinner plate, it was ruined by scratches on its surface from a regular table knife and now looks like a garage sale purchase. I am angry and terribly disappointed. I no longer have either the packaging or receipt so a return and refund will be a hassle.

This set is okay. It has a few nice features like the lipped dinner plate I really like that. The dinner bowl is different that you don’t normally see. The bowls are a normal size. However they look really nice but when your holding them the darker part is a rough material. My husband says like sand paper. A really non abrasive sand paper but still not super pleasant. For our liking anyways. They don’t stack nicely without it rubbing against the texture gnarly. For us we have to stack our dishes in the cabinet so it’s not ideal. They are dishwasher and microwave safe. I wanted to love this set. They look so nice but the texture ruins it. Wish it was the look but not the feel. They are however easy to hand wash as the bottom is grippy they don’t slip from your hands. That could be a plus for some people.

I was so excited for these. I don’t use mugs, but I love bowl plates as I call them. The larger, shallow bowls. This set was the first I had found with exactly the dishes I want in a style I love. But they aren’t usable. As someone with ceramic and pottery knowledge, I can tell you do not use dinnerware with pinholes. They look like areas where a bubble popped in the glaze, leaving a tiny crater like hole without glaze and raised edges around it. Bacteria will grow in those spots. I have never come across this with commercial products. Not to mention the small plates are absolutely covered in dust. That can be washed off, but it begs the question why? Again, brand new in a taped up box, yet it’s covered in a thick layer of dust. Poor quality that I did not expect from better homes and gardens.

The dishes are cute and I love the bigger bowl…but I hate everything else about them. The bottom is very rough so it scratches everything. You barely use silverware on them and they make a horrible scraping sound and leave silverware scratch marks all over them. They’re also very hard to stack so with them being so heavy, it feels impossible to line them up. I should have returned the whole set the second I touched them but I thought I would grow to like them. After 8 months, I hate them more.
