Love this pretty candle. We will use it on our deck this summer. I've already lit it once and it's great! I'll probably reuse the pottery once the candle is burned through.
I received this citronella candle for free in exchange for a review through the Walmart reviewer program. My initial through upon opening the extremely well packaged box is that the bowl that the candle is in is SUPER cute glazed ceramic that I will most likely use for a planter for my succulent plants when I'm done with the candle. It looks and feels really expensive. It has some weight to it and I love the little legs on the bowl holding it around an inch or so off of the table which I appreciate for the looks of the candle and also the practicality that when the candle us almost gone, it won't make the surface it's sitting on extremely hot. I lit the candle once so far since I received it in December and we don't have any mosquitoes to test it against. It did let off a very strong pleasant smell that I imagine would work well against mosquitoes next summer but I'll have to wait until then to try. For now it's a gorgeous candle that smells nice and the three wicks let off a little heat which made it nice to sit by on my patio last night and kept me a little warmer than I would have been. It also let off enough light so see around my porch a bit which was nice. Overall I'm very happy with this produce and I would recommend it even though I have yet to test it against mosquitoes. Can't wait to see some pretty plants I'm the bowl when the candle has fully served its purpose.
This citronella candle also contains rosemary, so there is a bit of a variation of the usual citronella smell. Made me think of soap. The three wicks were easy to light and was rather brighter than I anticipated when I lit it at dusk. The little ceramic pot that the candle is in steals the show. It's pretty just sitting there. The one I received is not as dark as the one pictured on the cover card of the product but still pretty. I seems to work well to repel mosquitos, because none were around while I was outside with the lighted candle. I believe the lighted Better Homes and Gardens Citronella Candle will be good to repel mosquitos if I place it nearby when I work in the yard and flower beds.
I have reviewed other candles before but if I could give this one a higher mark than 5 I would! It deserves a perfect 10. We are avid campers and enjoy the outside environment. This candle is not only beautiful but the smell is very nice! It even has a little extra in it because it has rosemary oil in it with the citronella! The candle pot is a nice ceramic that can be used for a potted plant. So recycling the emptied pot is a huge plus for us! This also is very effective at keeping the bugs away. Do not burn indoors, its not for that. Beautiful candle for the outdoors!
The ceramic citronella candle adds a classy touch to any home decor. Mine was lighter than the image shown in the description, which I actually like better! The candle has three wicks to help the candle burn evenly and adds a nice touch of atmosphere. The candle states that it is made with Rosemary (3% Rosemary oil, 3% citronella oil. ... paraffin wax, hydrogenated palm oil, and 94% soybean oil.) It doesn't smell as much like Rosemary as I had hoped. (It is made in China) It's more like one of those spring time scents you smell in detergents. I just received this this week so the smell is rather strong but I'm hoping it will also keep the pesky mosquitoes away! Once the candle burns down this will definitely be a nice keepsake piece for a potted cactus or even keys!
Very pretty ceramic pot, shaded from pale to dark teal. Has three candle wicks and casts a pretty glow when they are lit. I like the smell a lot, and apparently mosquitos don't like the smell! Seems to keep the bugs away at sunset. I'm already planning to put in a little desert garden with tiny succulents in the pot when the candle is completely used up next summer. The candle came well-wrapped in lots of bubble-wrap which I appreciated.
I haven't used it yet but love the color and design. Hopefully it keeps the bugs away.
The ceramic happens to match my décor so in that respect I'm thrilled with it. It's not the best time of year to test these - November - but it does have a strong citronella odor so it should work well for repelling mosquitos. And I'll be sure to keep the container when the candle is burned through.
This candle is very strongly scented with citronella and the ceramic pot is a lovely turquoisy/teal color (I will definitely enjoy repurposing it one day with a houseplant!) but the packaging was a little overkill. It came mailed in a heavy-duty box (munitions warning) with lots of bubble wrap and about 25 stamped pages of mailing documents from China. I was quite surprised and wondered how all of that happened with a BHG candle from Walmart. Nonetheless, I love the candle and I know it will be quite the centerpiece to keep the bugs away on our next camping trip...and it comes with quite a story too! It is now my favorite citronella candle of all times!
This outdoor, teal-colored ceramic citronella candle by Better Homes and Gardens is six inches in diameter and has three wicks. Shouldn't have to say this but you will need matches or lighter to light wicks. Be surprised some folks don't know this simple thing. When lit, you can smell the fresh Rosemary and Citrus more than the citronella scent. I choose this style because of the three little ceramic feet. They hold the container up off the plastic tablecloth. Most other ceramic candle holders get so hot that they melt the plastic tablecloth and kinda ruin the effect. If you are getting this just to use as a centerpiece then one should do it but if you plan to use it to repel mosquitoes from bothering you and your guests depending on the area you will need more than one. The great thing is once you've used up this candle you can reuse this lovely little container as a planter, or whatnot holder like cotton balls, jewelry, even scrubby by the sink. Possibilities to reuse this are endless. I will say that my teenage daughter asked me what that was and when I told her it was to repel mosquitos she said “It did a good job at repelling kids too” : ) but then again it was inside. So needless to say, even unlit it has a very powerful odor. I have removed one star just because I haven't been able to use it to see if it repels bugs since the weather has turned cold and there really are no mosquitos to repel at this time, but I look forward to trying it out come spring. In the meantime I have sealed it up in a gallon sized plastic bag so I do not repel my kids : )
