If you like Brussel sprouts and caramelized balsamic vinegar, you will love this dish. The added chicken and sweet potatoes make this a complete easy to fix meal that's better than what's available with most meal plans. This has become a kitchen staple in my home.
The Balsamic glaze is restaurant quality. It is bright and has a bit of a bite, I guess I'd say I it has a sour note. It is wonderful! The Brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes are the perfect size and texture. I like my Brussel sprouts softer than most people, so I reduced the heat and cooked it a bit longer and the sauce did not dry out. Oddly, the onion is the unsung hero of the dish adding more flavor and texture. I'd be proud to serve this to anyone. It's an amazing dish!
I don't understand the lower reviews. Dinner from bag to table in 12 minutes? This isn't gourmet goods just Bettergoods. If you want the spend the better part of an hour prepping, cooking and cleaning up the mess then you may get a more customized meal. The only thing I had trouble with was the sauce is already on the product. It was too saucy for me. I will try it again and see if that is normally how it comes or if it was a fluke. I prefer my sauces light, more of a compliment to the dish than a main ingredient.
I took off one star for a few reasons. First, the Brussels sprouts were too big IMO. Cutting them each in half one more time makes them closer to the size of the chicken and sweet potatoes, so it would cook more evenly. I manually did that, but I shouldn't have had to. Also, the color of the meal is NOT like the pictures. It was absolutely PACKED with the balsamic seasoning, which made everything really dark. The aesthetic factor is not worth removing a star on its own, but coupled with the too-big Brussels, which made me remove a star. Otherwise, it is tasty, super easy to make, and very filling. There are no other sides needed; it is an entire meal on its own and would easily feed three people with hearty appetites or four with smaller appetites. Two bags fed five people in my family, four with hearty appetites and one with a smaller appetite, with a little left over. I will most likely buy this again, and I would recommend at least giving it a go if you love balsamic, Brussels, and sweet potatoes!
we should not be surprised that the chicken in this would be, well, less than to be desired, but the vegetables may well have come from the factory floor. there was little bite or consistency in the balsamic, either. this whold thing is composed of afterthought. so, for th emoney, this is the equilivent of instant ramen. price at ~$2 less and its be perfect.
Very little protein for the high price! I stretched it to three reasonable adult servings by adding a bag of frozen diced sweet potatoes. Strong red onion flavor. In fact, I noticed that red onions were not mention in the front of the package. Too much balsamic glaze. Dish has potential, but the execution tells me the BetterGoods brand (which is a Wal-Mart brand) is clearly not testing out their products before they sell them. Note to BetterGoods: Balsamic glaze needs to come in a separate packet. Need more chicken. Add more sweet potatoes. Switch to sweet onions. Red onions overpower the dish.
Has a good flavor, my only complaint is that the package says it's 3.5 servings, but in reality it's only 2 and yes I measured out my portions hoping to eat on this for two days. I ate it with quinoa and bettergoods garlic parmesan aoli for added flavor.
I was so excited to try this Better Goods Meal. It was easy to prepare after a long hard day. The flavor was good and I loved the combination of vegetables. However, there was no chicken. I literally only found 1 piece of chicken in the whole meal. It's an expensive bag of vegetables.
I should have known better. At the end of the day, you're combining two dense vegetables- brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes - with a protein that's way too easy over cook (chicken breast), an onion that's easy to burn, and balsamic vinegar that's easy to scorch when you're assuming all things cook at the same rate. The chicken was dry and withered by the time the brussel sprouts could be pierced with a fork. Sweet potatoes still crunchy. No not recommend.
This was inedible! About four small pieces of chicken, the Brussels sprouts were basically raw even though I cooked for longer than it instructs. The taste was just godawful burnt and sour and bitter, it even made my eyes and nose sting as I was cooking it
