These are a great alternative to mash potatoes. My husband loves scalloped potatoes- one of his favorite dishes. If you want a quick delicious side dish, this is a good choice. I change regular milk and use heavy cream instead- makes it creamier and thickens the sauce in my opinion.
These Betty Crocker Au Gratin Casserole Potatoes are so easy to make and turn out creamy and flavorful every time. The potatoes cook perfectly, and the sauce is rich without being too heavy. Great as a side dish for dinner or holidays, and you can easily dress them up with cheese or add-ins. Super convenient and always a crowd-pleaser!
Been eating these for years and they have never let me down. The double pack works well in that you double the ingredients and use a 9x13 baking dish. The potatoes make a thin layer, but they work.
I have used Betty Crocker boxed potatoes for years. But recently I have been noticing that the flavors are not as great. It could be because they are using cheaper ingredients, or maybe my tastes are changing. But this product hasn't changed in years. What happened to putting out a 'New and Improved' version of this. This product is just not evolving in taste. Since I have been a fan for so long, I recommend this product to others. Simply because some may find it does meet their standards and it is an easy side dish to any meal.
It has been a while since I used this brand. I doubt I will buy it again at Wal-Mart. the amount of dehydrated potatoes in the packet looked like 1/2 of what I used to get. Secondly, the cheese sauce was saltier than I remember. If you choose to bake it according to the directions, it over baked, I attributed it to the smaller portion sizes in the packaging. I bought the 2 pack, and the second pack, although it was still smaller on potatoes included, I added more milk then cooked it in the microwave. it turned out much creamier, but still saltier than I remembered.
I used to love these potatoes and buy them all the time! They made a change which showed up the last 2 or 3 times I bought them. They have a puddle of grease now on the top after cooking them, and it was never like that before. There is also some kind of strong flavor added to the cheese sauce, that to me is very overpowering. These two issues combined have unfortunately ruined these potatoes for me and I won't be purchasing them anymore. I'm so very disappointed to lose a food that I've purchased for decades!
The box might have stayed the same but the amount of potatoes in the bag is pathetic. A handful of potatoes, no way is there enough for 4 people. I remember when this would make a nice bowl of potatoes and you would have leftovers. Shame on these food companies that shrink the product but charge more for them.
The flavor isn't great. Kids probably like it as the cheese sauce is a lot The texture of the potatoes not great. Too liquid Really just cheese sauce and too many fake ingredients.
the reason I wouldn't recommend these opposed to scalloped potatoes I would use before these is because it takes these longer to cook I cooked for 2 hours and in a crock pot and they still wouldn't done 2 hours the scalloped potatoes would have been done just a word advice
I'm not sure what's changed over the years, but these potatoes are nasty. It's been at least 15 yrs since I've bought them and I only bought them again because my son asked for them. The TWIN BOXES that are sold now, are actual REGULAR boxes they used to sell. Cheap, gross, and fake.. proof that people will eat anything. They ended up in the garbage.
