This is a cute little tube of icing! It's very easy to use and I like that it comes out in a thin enough line so you can actually use it for writing/drawing. Sometimes the packaging doesn't allow precise writing, but this works well! It also doesn't taste bad (basically just tastes like sugar!)

This Betty Crocker decorating icing in a writing tube is perfect to write on a birthday cake or on cupcakes or any dessert you want to personalize like this cheesecake I wrote on. This writing icing is in the color black. You need scissors or a knife to snip the end off before using. It has a screw on cap to keep it fresh to use the next time. It comes out in a steady stream to write with it while pressing in or squeezing the sides with a firm steady grip, applying even pressure for your writing to be uniform instead of some letters that are wider than others like mine. It takes just a bit of practice but any beginner can even do it. The icing tastes good also after using it on your dessert. This icing is gluten free. It is a 1.3 ounce tube. We usually purchase a bakery cake or ice cream cake for birthdays but I decided I will try out my icing writing skills on the next family members birthday. I recommend this also for kids to decorate sugar cookies or their own cupcakes.

The Betty Crocker Dessert Decorating Writing Icing in Black is great for decorating. We used to to decorate a plate for my son's birthday. The hole in the end was nice and small which made it easy to write with. it flowed out nice and easy which made for smooth writing

Put in refrigerator before using to stiffing up. You will have it runny and not staying in place. Once refrigerated it will work perfect. Goes on smooth and color is normal looking. Works great for any baking you got to do

This review is for Betty Crocker dessert icing. The icing color that I am reviewing is black icing. I put some on my finger and rubbed it on my teeth. It colored my teeth a little and my gums but it came off with a little coffee. My finger stained a little and I had to wash my hands more than once to get it off. That being said, most people aren't going to put the icing on their skin and it tastes delicious!

This writing icing is great to use for quick decorating. It is easy to open and apply. However, it is a little difficult to have the icing come out at a consistent speed for neat application. It tastes great as any icing does! And the color is bright and vibrant. Overall, a great product.

This is a good alternative if you are feeling lazy and don't want to make your own. My kids love it because it's just fun. I as a decorator do not like it so much. When squeezed immediately balls at the end. It's not consistent as far as flow, no matter if you push the same pressure on it. It is more liquidy than I would like. It's great to have around for my kids, but I do not feel that I would use it myself.

We are definitely not professional cake decorators at all. We tried out Betty Crocker’s writing icing on cookies to see how well it worked out. The first issue with it is it’s hard to get the icing out once you get going with writing. Especially for children’s hands or someone who has arthritis or not a lot of hand strength. The size of the tube doesn’t give you a lot of icing and that makes it harder to continue using, especially writing long messages. The lines from the can bleed over some causing it to look bad. The icing sticks to itself so moving it around can be a challenge. My kids got extremely frustrated with trying to write with it. Another issue is the writing icing does not dry, so doing things like writing or outlining cookies makes it hard to wrap them up or stack without the icing coming off. It’s not a bad item for people with more patience to try. I like the fact that it comes in the color black, most icings come in bright colors. It helps with outlines, writing words and drawing things like eyes on your baked good. I just wish it was easier to use and dried on to help make the creations look better.
