This bird feeder is made of high quality material and should last a long time. Definitely worth the money.
It is actually squirrel proof. Just keep far enough away from branches and objects where they could jump onto it. This is my third. They last years but mine all rust put from moisture where the pole goes into the base despite the plastic cap on the pole they use. They are not cheap but I have saved money without birdseed theft from squirrels. I don't mind the squirrels getting seeds dropped by birds on the ground. Best feeder I have ever had and that's why I am a return customer.
I knew I loved this bird feeder the minute I took it out of the package. Easy to assemble, high quality materials and just looks really sturdy in the ground. The birds, however, took a little longer to decide they love the feeder. It took 24 hours for a bird to land on it, and it was a full 48 hours before they were using it regularly. They would fly up to it and they fly away, as if they didn't want to perch on it. They're doing fine now though! The squirrels hate it and want me to bring back the old feeder - I have not seen any squirrels successfully get to the food! The only thing I would change if I could is to have more feeding ports. I might just have to buy a 2nd one!
My parents had one in CT and it survived many winters. In GA now and this new model is built the same but with metal, not plastic, perches. Great value.
Great feeder , it is just as described. Easy to put together and put out in the yard. Birds love it, squirrels hate it because they can't get in it.
I was so glad to find this feeder. I had one just like it that lasted for years, but eventually was hit by the lawn mower one fatal time. It is in my garden about 6 feet from the garage and has so far foiled the squirrels. They cannot climb it and will have difficulty hanging on even if they succeed in jumping off the garage to attack it. This seems to be an improved version of my older feeder as it has an insert that helps control seed flow.
FINALLY------------------After 11 years of battling squirrels-------no I didn't hurt them, I just allowed them to continue to eat the birds food!! BUT I now have a bird feeder that allows the little ones to eat in peace. It works!!!!!!!!! I have bought over 13 feeders of all kinds of so called squirrel proofing feeders and none did the job. THIS ONE DOES and it only took the birds to feed out of it in two days. I am delighted and the birds can't thank you and I enough. VICTORY!!!!!!!!! Thank you Peggy in PA
I had a much older version of this same feeder, the Audubon Bird Feeder, and it lasted for decades. This model is much improved with metal perches and shielded openings. Birds love it and squirrels cannot get to it from the ground because the bottom part of the feeder acts as a squirrel guard. It holds a good amount of seed and has four feeding perches. It's well worth the purchase!
I had what I thought was the exact same same feeder for 15-20 years. It was in great condition except portions of the plastic just wore out. Other than that, it was in great condition. This new one is already falling apart. A squirrel got on it and all of the metal guards are now pulled away from the main cylinder. I've got tape trying to hold them on. Two different perches have dropped to the ground.
Do NOT buy this feeder! It has a serious design defect - the bird seed just pours out of the holes both when you fill it. After losing lots of seed that has spilled onto the ground, when it gets about half-way full, the seed stops spilling. But then when the birds come to feed, another huge amount spills onto the ground. Now every squirrel in town comes to feed here - on the ground. The feeder itself is pretty squirrel proof, but that's irrelevant if you want your seed to feed birds, not squirrels. Hayneedle customer service was great and refunded us in full when I explained this. I suspect they've heard this complaint before.
