Nice addition

valzem December 3, 2015

When I first received this from the Sparks team for review, I was a bit apprehensive, my old toaster oven had fairly self explanatory dials on it. This has a number of buttons, presets, and is a bit more complicated than I expected. I definitely recommend reading the manual that comes with it, makes it much easier to operate. First of all, it is a nice wider oven which will accommodate a 9"x 13" pan which is wonderful and makes it much easier to save on using the 220 of your regular oven. There are 7 preset settings and in the manual gives you detailed steps that help you understand each preset, whether you should need to preheat, hints for each setting, etc. There is also a function chart which tells you the default settings of time and temperatures and and also the temperature range of each preset. Also on the door, there are little icons for the presets and what they stand for, kind of a cheat sheet. It took us awhile to get used to this oven but we are now very happy with it. It is attractive, well made and it heats very quickly and everything we've cooked in it we've been satisfied with the result. The one drawback I don't like about the oven is that there is not an on/off switch and you are advised to unplug it when not in us and it repeats that often in the instructions. I'm sure it saves on electricity but it was just inconvenient. We have our oven on a kitchen rack and we have it plugged into a surge protector. I mounted the surge protector on the back of the rack and it has an on/off switch and we switch that on and off instead of actually unplugging the unit and it works beautifully since the oven is the only appliance we have plugged into it. Very nice oven, works very well, would definitely recommend....

Large oven that cooks good

Ky13Mom December 7, 2015

In review of the Black & Decker Convection oven I will say this oven is a great stainless steel color and very pretty to sit on your counter. I will say it was a bit larger an expected however it has turned out useful because it will fit an entire frozen pizza and also a 9x13 pan! It really would be great for an apartment or work kitchen without an oven. You could utilize the convention feature and really not be limited by space. I enjoy the crumb tray that will fully pull out. The buttons are easy to use, for example you press “toast” button and then you can adjust the various settings 1-7 depending on what degree of heat you want. There are several individual buttons such as toast, bagel, reheat, convection etc. I think the various buttons make it very simple to use. The convection feature also cooks things pretty fast, so that will be a good feature to use this little oven instead of heating up your big oven. I have cooked some frozen food in it and cooking was fast and easy! I think this oven is a quality product and well built. I still think it is a little large for my use but at least it is nice looking sitting on your counter.

Digital options great; Variety of options

Mstigeress December 6, 2015

This is actually my very first convection oven of any kind. I had no idea it could be used for such a variety of things. The oven came packed tightly. There was tape and styrofoam to keep it from getting scratched or broken. There are only 3 pieces that you have to put in the oven yourself. There's a crumb tray that goes in at the very bottom, there's the main grill that slides into one of the 3 positions (top, middle, and bottom), and the metal tray that can go under the grill or on top. The attached video shows you exactly how it's done. It's very easy. The digital oven comes with pre-set options. You can choose from: Convection oven, a toasting option, a bagel option, a frozen food option, a re-heat option, a pizza option, and a broil option. There are also up and down buttons for temperature and a timer/toast setting. When you choose the toasting option you can press on the up or down arrows by the "toast/timer" options to choose your toasting setting. It can go from 1-7 with 1 being just slightly toasted to 7 being almost black. I have started using convection oven times on the backs of products instead of my microwave because the food just comes out tasting better and not as rubbery or hard. I used this oven with my Thanksgiving leftovers and they came out tasting sooo much better than using the microwave. I am addicted to this oven now and use it all the time. I like that it doesn't heat up the entire house. I do want to add that the outside of the oven gets hot. So you definitely need to keep this away from little curious hands. I keep mine pushed back on my counter top when I have little visitors over.

New Favorite Kitchen Appliance!

EthansMom74 December 13, 2015

I've always wanted one of these counter-top convection ovens. I tried several different types of food in it and everything came out great. I used the Pizza setting to cook a Red Baron 12" pizza. The crust was very crispy, just the way my son likes it. The edges and toppings were browned nicely with a much more even cook than my oven does it. I tried the Frozen setting to cook some Bagel Bites because I wanted to see if they would come out better than the 'hockey pucks' I get with my oven. They did! They were cooked through and not rubbery. The bottom and sides were crispy and that was the first time I got my son to eat an entire plate of them. I used the Convection Oven setting to bake some cookies. LOVED THEM!!! Oowee-Gooie inside and crisp outer edges. I prefer this Toaster Oven overall because I haven't had anything turn out other than AWESOME since I plugged it up. If you're in the market for one of these Counter-top appliances, I would definitely recommend THIS BRAND! The instructions were super easy to follow. For a person who's never used one of these before, I didn't get frustrated or bummed out because the booklet that came with it was very straight-forward and had clear instructions.

Most utilized kitchen appliance

Reviewer91 November 28, 2015

The Black and Decker Digital Extra Wide Convection Toaster Oven came well packaged in a sturdy box. The Convection Toaster Oven came with a slide out crumb tray, a slide rack, and instructions. The instructions were easy to read and follow. The color is chrome with black finishings and the front door has a glass window. I just love my previous Convection Toaster Ovens and this Black and Decker Convection Toaster Oven is a must oven for any family home. I especially like how the slide out crumb tray slides out from the front and not the back. Previous toaster ovens had them in the back and it was so difficult and inconvenient to remove and clean. This oven has several functions to choose from. They range from Convection and Bake, Toast, Broil, Bagel, Reheat, Pizza, Frozen Snacks, Temperature, Timer and Toast Shade, and a Start-Stop button. You can also pick from 1-7 when toasting; 1 is the lightest and 7 is the darkest. The included sliding rack can be moved to three different locations in the oven; top, middle, bottom. This Toaster Oven will be the most used and utilized appliance in my kitchen. Overall, I would recommend this product to any family household.

LOVE IT!!

Brazilchick32 November 29, 2015

This Black & Decker Digital Extra Wide Convection Toaster Oven is amazing! This convection oven replaced the one I have had for 10 years and I LOVE it! This one is double the size of my old one and fits a 13x9 baking dish inside, 8 slices of bread or a 12 inch pizza. It heats evenly and has seven separate cooking functions like baking, broiling, toasting, a bagel setting, a reheat wetting, pizza and frozen snack settings. The digital controls are nice and has a bright blue light when you turn it on. It also has a 120 minutes timer with auto shutoff and a stay on function. The digital screens shows the cooking information you have set up. It also has three positions to place the racks inside and has a removable crumb tray. The only negative I saw was when you open the door it will fall down fast and hard on the counter so you have to be careful and open the door slowly so you don't damage the door or the handle. Would be nice if they fixed that but other than that this is perfect and I love the size so I don't have to always use my oven to make a full meal now which saves money on utility bills and doesn't makes your house so hot as the oven would.

Quite Pleased

J Mike B June 10, 2020

Overall well pleased. Performs well for baking and toasts uniformly. A few things could be improved such as suggesting to unplug the unit after each use. A clearer indication of whether the unit is on or off should be provided when the power button is pushed. The timer increment needs to be smaller than 1 minute. For the toast function, 3 minutes overcooks the bread and 2 minutes undercooks it.

Great toaster oven!

1cookielady December 6, 2015

I have never seen an extra wide toaster oven in a store so I didn't know what to expect. I was totally surprised at the size of the Black & Decker oven when it arrived. This one is "huge". It is a whopping 21 inches wide and 12 1/4 inches deep, add another 1/2 inch for the parts on each side of the back to protect the wall. The toaster oven I've been using is 17 X 11 1/4 so this oven is quite a bit larger. You need to have a lot of counter space, and fortunately I do. I use my toaster oven faithfully and can't do without one. This extra wide oven is going to be great! The oven is a very nice style with an ample size digital display. Buttons for choosing the functions are below the digital display. The oven ihas a metal casing and not insulated so one must be careful and not touch it while it's in use. There is a warning about this in the manual. The oven comes with only one rack and a slide out crumb tray making it easy for cleaning. I wished regular toasters have slide out crumb trays. I wrapped a piece of foil around the crumb tray which helps keep the tray clean. There are symbols of the different functions on the buttons as well as in white on the glass door with the descriptions for each symbol which I found to be helpful. I have no idea how a convection oven works so it's going to take some time to get use to using the oven. I first tried the toaster function. I toasted two halves of a type of artisan bread by pressing on the button with the toaster feature function. On a setting of 1 being the lightest to 7 the darkest. The oven was already set at #4 for toasting, I just press the start/stop button. The digital display is nice and big and bright. You're supposed to let the oven heat up first when using any of the functions. The oven will beep when it is heated to the correct temperature. I think it took "approximately" three minutes for this setting. The oven toasted the bread a little too dark making the bread too crisp/hard. I lowered the setting to #3 to lighten the bread. Next I toasted 6 slices of regular bread. There was ample space for that many slices. This time it browned the bread on top but not so much on the bottom. The oven does toast a lot faster then my current toaster oven. To try the convection oven feature I took out my favorite white casserole dish. The box the oven came in indicates that the oven will fit a 9X13" casserole dish. My dish is 13 3/4" X 11 1/2" and fits inside the oven with another 2 1/2" to spare. I made a mac and cheese casserole with crispy onions sprinkled on top. I first set the temperature at 350 degrees and timed it for 40 minutes. After about five minutes of baking I could see the onions getting browned too soon. I lowered the time to 30minutes and covered the casserole with foil. The oven peeped when time was up to eat! The oven did a great job heating the casserole through. Now time to try the broiler feature. I cut two pieces of partly frozen chicken breast in half crosswise because of the thickness. The oven has 3 rack positions so place the rack on the highest for broiling. I put a piece of foil on the baking pan that comes with the oven. I pressed the broil setting and set the the timer my guess for 10 minutes. After it peeped the chicken looked like it was done for this side. Here's the scary part, when I pulled the rack with the chicken on it out the rack came out slightly tilted causing the pan to start sliding off the rack. I was using only one pot holder but fortunately was able to keep the pan and chicken from falling on the floor. This caught me by surprise because your first reaction would be to touch the hot pan to keep your food from falling to the floor. Good thing I caught myself before that happened. Bye the way the cord is very very short only approximately 25 inches long to the end of the plug itself. I had the toaster oven on the island and it had to be right at the edge in order for me to plug it into an outlet on the side. I turned the chicken over and broiled the other side for the same amount of time 10 minutes. The chicken was done. After I was done with the broiling and the oven cooled off some I wanted to see why the rack came out tilting downward. It looks like the grooves where the rack is slid into is too wide so the rack is not secured tightly in the grooves on both sides of the oven. This I see is a problem. Lastly for my review, there is only one recipe in the manual for a single serving of a Chocolate Chip cake in a mug. First I turned on the convection/bake function to warm up to 375F as directed. I followed the measurements for the ingredients but sifted the dry ingredients instead. I greased and floured the bottom of the cup to prevent sticking. After mixing the wet ingredients with the dry it didn't look like very much batter and only filled the cup I used to just under halfway. The recipe says to bake the cake between 15 and 18 minutes. Since there wasn't a lot of batter I timed it for only 10 minutes. When time was up I checked the cake and the top was a nice golden brown. The way you would test a cake when it's done is to stick a tooth pick or small skewer in the center. If nothing sticks to it then it's done. The cake only rose to slightly higher then half of the cup. It didn't look anything like the picture with the cake risen above the edge of the cup and the chocolate chips laying on top. My cup must be quite a bit larger. However it was tasty. I really like the toaster oven and I'm going to put it to good use. As I said earlier I can't do without one. I especially like the wide width. That's the best part in not having to heat up the regular oven. I still have a lot to figure out on how to use the oven but I'm going to really enjoy using it.

Good product

Clancy February 20, 2017

although the B&D toaster oven is larger than usual it fits well on my counter. Never have to guess at temp. Item arrived as advertised. Enjoying using the convention oven. For the price it's a great deal Negatives, but not deterrents, timer does not count down so you don't know how much time is left. No real on/off switch, instructions recommend to unplug from wall after each use. A pain . Husband purchased a wireless key chain remote light control, works great. Oven completely turned off with a push of a button.

Great Toaster Oven!

Souvendra November 11, 2020

This toaster oven is great. It.'s wider than other normal toaster oven and you can use it for baking, toasting etc. The preheat and cooking time is fast and definitely you should be saving on electricity as compare to cooking in an oven. I'm just a little worried about the heating lamp (as compare to an heat element) who looks flexible and fragile and if it got burn, will be nearly impossible to replace.
