After buying an 08 JK last fall knowing it had the very common issue of popping out of first gear I began to do my research while tolerating the problem. After reading everything I could I was convinced this issue is in the shifter 99% of the time and not the syncros or internals, primarily due to the fact that there are so many examples of this problem in Jeeps with just a few thousand miles on them. Rational thought would say "who needs a short throw shifter in a jeep" - of course the answer is pretty much nobody but B&M took the time to develop this shifter to "fix the issue of popping out of gear while off-roading" and now 'm convinced they have succeeded. After reading many threads in the forums with pros & cons I finally decided to buy the shifter. The install only took about 90 minutes but I have a lift so it's certainly easier that way. Without any question the shifter fixed my issue of popping out of first gear. Previously it would pop out about 10-20% of first gear starts. So far it has a perfect record of never popping out of gear after several hundred miles and several hours of teaching my daughter how to drive a stick so you can imaging how many times she let the clutch out and it didn't pop out a single time. Also, the stiffness that some have complained about has certainly not been a problem for me or my newbie stick driving daughter. While I know B&M cannot promise this shifter will fix this issue with every transmission as some could have internal issues, I feel pretty confident it will fix nearly all of the 6 speeds that pop out of gear. Go for it you'll be glad you did.
PURCHASED THIS DUE TO TRANSMISSION HAD POPPED OUT OF FIRST GEAR A COUPLE OF TIMES. SEEN THIS NEW SHIFTER ON JEEP WEB PAGE. INSTALLED THIS IN 1 HOUR 2005 JEEP TJ WORKS GREAT. SPENT MORE TIME WITH JEEPS COUNSEL FITMENT THEN INSTALL OF SHIFTER. GOOD PRODUCT.
This shifter was a 1000% improvement in the notoriously lousy Jeep shifter. It is pricey but the benefits are worth it.
need to know if this will work on a 2006 jeep liberty 6 speed
For the price listed, someone going to install it and does it come with the shift lever and knob?
