My husband loves these. Wished we could find them at our Costco again!!!!
A few times per week I get in early and make a big pot of hot yummy Bob's Red Mill steel cut oats in our office's old farmhouse kitchen. Instead of making one portion, I just make the whole bag (hint - use the bag to measure the water)! I usually add vanilla and a heavy pour of organic ground flax seed. Send out the office email and everyone comes running!
We have Quick Cooking Steel Cut Oats every day for breakfast. We vary the berry toppings so it never gets boring. We consider breakfast our most important meal, so we like to start right. The oats can be microwaved in 5 minutes and we throw in some Bob's Red Mill Organic Golden Flaxseed Meal for extra fiber! Do your body a favor and start the day with Bob's Quick Cooking Steel Cut Oats.
Although I like several Bob's Red Mill products, the steel cut oats are unsurpassed. I know because I have tried other brands only to know after the first bite I should have bought Bob's steel cut oats. I often say to my family members that Bob's steel cut oats are excellent.
I've been a slave to the convenience of instant oatmeal packets, but no more. One bowl of delicious stone-cut oatmeal, and I'm willing to take 7 minutes to boil some up! The incredible texture of these grains, combined with milk and honey, have changed my breakfast habits for ever. (Now, if you could work up some instant stone-cut oatmeal packets...)
Great product. Consistent quality. To the Alaskan who was concerned about the energy efficient way to make their oats and isn't time consuming. Put the oats in a pot the night before (I use my heavy les crueset), bring the water to a boil with the oats, turn off the burner, put on the lid to trap the heat. Leave them overnight. In the morning when you are boiling water for tea or coffee you can add a little of it to thin the oats, and reheat it on the stove and it heats up beautifully in meer minutes. Time and energy efficient. Others can microwave.
Sadly, I have high blood pressure. One of the recommendations to lower it is a healthy, low sodium diet--specifically eating oatmeal. While that may not sound so pleasing, Bob's has made that a simple and delicious task. I actually look forward to my daily bowl of oats (I like to add chia, flaxseed, unsweetened coconut flakes, and fresh berries), which is both quick to prepare and super tasty--way better than standard Quaker and other oats!
Best oatmeal ever. Add in chia, flaxseed, walnuts and raisins. Make a huge container on Sundays and eat it every morning with a little milk and honey. Can't wait to see how my bloodwork comes in after eating everyday for 3 months. Thanks Bob and Red Mill for continuing to work on providing food for the nation during these tough times!
I find of requires significantly more water than the instructions say. I make a big batch and freeze portions. I do 6 cups of water to 2 cups of the oats. I also need to cook longer for a less crunchy texture. That often requires more water.
Enjoy lots of BRM products- but if these were the first steel-cut oats I had ever tried, I would have concluded that steel cut is Not for me. Had to put them through coffee grinder so that they'd cook reasonably "quick" and edible. Crunchy oatmeal doesn't cut it.....
