Its chocolate cake mix, how can that not be a perfect product. You can pour some in a cupcake pan in an air fryer or in a bowl for the microwave and it tastes great. You can add an egg and water or just water. It really tastes exactly the same and an egg isnt really needed. I havent bought any other cake mixes in years because of all the crap they put in it...and this isnt all crap, its good, and I recommend it. Its a good price for a good product. Bobs is a quality brand.
Overall a tasty grain-free mix. Out of concern in reviews about dryness, i made two decisions: (1) i used a liquid fat (vegetable oil); and, (2) i made it a "poke cake". After it cooled to slightly warm, i tried a piece. The mouth-feel is pleasant for a grain-free mix. Good chocolate flavor, not very sweet like other traditional "cake mix". Because the mix only makes an 8" cake, you will need to use just half a 3.9 oz packet of jello pudding and whip it with just one cup of cold milk (do NOT make your pudding while your cake bakes; your pudding will set and not pour into/seep into your poked holes). I think the poke cake concept will keep the cake moist while it gets eaten over the next day or two. I dont think the cake will be overly dry without the pudding, BUT grain free cakes dont hold moistness in general (although i did post a review on the Paleo flour Carrot cake recipe and that cake stays moist!!!). I recommend this product overall. Grain free cake just is what it is as a thing, but I am being honest about the mouthfeel of this mix-it really is the closest you will find to wheat-based mixes, but in grain free!
I have used Bob's Red Mill Chocolate Cake Mix just to make single serve microwave mug cakes, and it worked perfectly with a regular egg per 36-40g (flax eggs don't work as well). Maybe it's the higher content of egg per quantity of mix, but the result was moist and sufficient cake like for me. It had the classic chocolate cake taste, not too strong, not too sweet. Personally I couldn't tell it's even grain free, it doesn't have the gritty texture almond flour usually has.
Very good! The first thing I made from my order. Was craving chocolate cake not overly sweet. I made cupcakes - 12 standard size. Sprayed paper liners. Bake 15-17 minutes. Made homemade chocolate frosting with enough left over for the brownies several days later. Would buy again! Delicious! Thanks, Bob!
Not too sweet. Good chocolate flavour. Made with coconut oil and JustEggs had a bouncey slightly chewy texture. Everyone loved it, served without frosting. Great to have grain free alternative. Good chocolate cake, better for you, great convenience.
My husband is diabetic & just loves this cake. Best of all, it doesn't seem to raise his blood sugar much. I'm afraid I'm not much for chocolate cake by itself but it is great with vanilla ice cream. It's a win, win.
This cake is really really good. Rich chocolatey flavor that satisfies my cravings. So moist and full of flavor. I did not frost this cake. I didn't think it needed it.
If you're a serious chocoholic, try this and also the grain-free brownies too. We loved each of them a lot. So glad they're grain-free so we can enjoy them more often.
I bought this cake mix for my son's birthday. All three of my children have sensitivities to gluten and dairy, as do I, and I additionally am sensitive to nightshades. This means that any gluten-free mix with potato starch was out of the question. Thankfully, this mix is nightshade-free! I love the simplicity of this mix, just adding a couple of basic ingredients, mixing and baking. My kids and husband loved the cake! Personally, I am not a huge fan of nuts, and it does have a nutty flavor to it, so it wasn't my *absolute* favorite, but it was certainly pleasant enough to enjoy for my son's birthday. I'm really glad I went with this option!
This was not a very tasty chocolate cake. It had a deep chocolate flavor, but was dry and crumbly. My significant other tried it with whip cream, and he said it didn't help. I'll try it with some vanilla ice cream later.
