These should be toasted in a hot pan before eating for the full flavor. These are tiny and can easily burn. Only try and toast up in small batches to reduce the chance of burning these. I use a big pan for about 1/4 cup of raw. Taste great on yogurt. Photos show toasted and raw amaranth. Very aromatic after toasting..Raw seeds have an earthy smell.

Cooks slow, even in a rice cooker; but it's worth the wait.

Dangerous product! Health hazard! The product I got has a horrendous hazardous chemical smell (like pesticide or bleach or some bad chemical). When I had made porridge out of it I had put a lot of spices like vanilla, cinnamon, cardamom saffron and even with all that I could still smell that chemically smell, I started to wonder about it but never even thought the product may have chemicals smell. I was so busy I couldn't follow up right away and next time I tried to use I remembered and smelled the grains in the packet and I was shocked to find a pungent chemical smell! Now I am so concerned about health issues of what the chemical smell is and Walmart is not taking this seriously at all! I am worried about my health and not knowing what could be the chemical and what I need to do to follow up. First time the rep just disappeared, second time they said their health department would contact me and there would be an investigation but there was none of that and when I called to follow up the next rep was explaining how the chemical could've gotten there (to my horror!) and then upon stressing the seriousness of the situation she just cut me off! I am reporting this to the consumer product safety commission and following up with FDA and other environmental agencies! I can't believe companies are getting away with violations like this! Now my health is in jeopardy as I have already ingested it!!
