I see that many people are giving this product very negative reviews. Our experience could not be more different--we are very, very pleased with the results this polish has given us over the years. Our house was built in 1988 with hardwood floors throughout the entire first floor. Never refinished or buffed, just periodic use of Bona Cleaner and Polish. For example, this picture shows the floor in a small room near our garage. This is where we hang our coats, our washer and dryer are here, also pantry shelving, plus our shredder and paper recycling. In other words, we walk into this room dozens of times a day. And this is how the floor looks after 29 years of use. All I can say is that those people who have had bad experiences must not be applying the product correctly. Our results have been very positive.
I find some of the reviews for this product amazing in that I have been using this product for the last 5 years on the same red oak hardwood floors. I find it easy to use , no milky film and I get many compliments on my floors as to how beautiful they look. A few tips. I pick a time to do floors when NO one will be home to walk on them for several hours. I first sweep, vac and then clean with the Bona Cleaner. It has to dry completely for an hour at least. I then use the product in divided areas and make sure it is spread evenly on the floors with the long blue mop. It is left to dry for 2 hours. One review talked about using it on tile. Be sure it is the Bona product for tile not hardwoods.
I believe all the negative reviews pertain to engineered wood floors. I've used this on my non-engineered true hard wood floors and the product seems to be superb. Even my flooring installers recommend this. That said, they suggest to only polish twice a year, anything more than that is too much polish. Also note, engineered wood floors are NOT the same as true real hardwood floors. Engineered wood floors by definition don't need to be polished because of how they are made where as true hardwood floors need the extra care to make them shine since they are installed, stained, and sealed on site at the place of install.
This product is extremely difficult to use. If you have to remove polish from your floor I suggest you consult a professional first. Chances are that after use of this product your going to need a professional anyway. I would not recommend this product at all!!
Just moved into a new home with gorgeous bamboo flooring (floors about 7 years old) and have been using the Bona cleaner as recommended. Time to polish, so I reached for the Bona floor polish and cannot believe the milky, dingy look that my floors now have (thankfully I only did a small portion, but silly me, it's in the entry way and partially in the kitchen). I would have thought Bona would have posted a reponse to the many reviews and provide some tips for getting the polish off, but I guess like everyone else I will be hiring a professional to restore the beauty to my previous gorgeous flooring.
Though I have used Bona Wood Cleaner for over 5 years, since moving into our new home, I have never used a polish. However, the floor is showing slight wear and I thought the polish would help. However, it made my floor milky looking, streaked, and very unappealing--though I followed the video and polish container instructions completely: new bottle of polish, new polish applicator, time allotment, etc. Do not use this product unless you want to spend hours trying to get the polish remover, apply it, then figure out how to make the floors shine once again!! But I love the cleaner!!
I just started using bona cleaner and decided to try the polish. I bought the buffer pad to use with it as instructed. Thank gawd I only tried it on a 4x4 small area. It left my floor dull & even more dirty looking. I am now scrubbing having to scrub my floor on my hands & knees to get rid of the milky foam it left. If that doesn't work I will have to hire a professional to come get the stuff up. I will be returning this. Awful product !!!
Like the others have said, this product left a horrible residue on my dark hardwoods, and is proving almost impossible to remove. Do NOT ever use this!! And when you call Bona to ask how to remove they recommend using their brand polish remover . I will never use another Bona product.
I agree with the other complaints. It is impossible to remove the milky coating from my floors. I would expect Bona to advise a better solution to this problem other than leaving a phone number. We all have busy lives and I would like to find the solution on the web site instead of having to call a phone number.
I have used your Bona low gloss polish for about 4 years. A little over a year ago I noticed that after I polished my floor I was not happy with the appearance. I now have a milky buildup on my chocolate hickory engineered hard wood floor. I ordered your polish remover and followed your instructions to a "T" on a 3' x 4' test area. I left your product on 10 minutes and cleaned. I repeated the process. I CAN NOT GET YOUR AWFUL POLISH OFF MY FLOOR. I now have to hire a professional to come in and fix my floor. I put my hardwood floors in your hands to protect and care for them and they have been compromised. VERY DISSAPOINTING!
