Once installed, I found it easy to calibrate the sound. I use it for highs and mids and it's a good value for the price. I have it connected to a Kenwood deck, Infinity 5x7" rear speakers, 6" Pioneer front speakers, and Cerwing Vega tweeters. They work flawlessly with this amp. I run my lows on a mono amp for the subwoofer gain without any loss. This amp is great for a low budget system, offering good sound quality for the price. So far, everything is working well.
I found the amplifier to be exceptional when set up correctly. It is very powerful with a clean style and a nice LED feature. I connected two 2000w Pioneer subwoofers in 8 ohm function and the sound is precise and deep. I am very satisfied with the great quality-price ratio.
This amp delivers 106 watts at 4 ohms and 170 watts at 2 ohms. Boss and Planet Audio tend to exaggerate their ratings. I found a Boss amp and an 8-inch sub for my work vehicle. The sound quality is surprisingly good, like a decent stock system. It lacks in low frequencies, but that's expected for an 8-inch sub. It's not going to blow you away, but it sounds decent with clean power. Boss could improve their reputation by being more honest.
The other review is accurate. The power matches the fuse rating well, but don't expect miracles from this amp or the company's honesty. As an industry veteran, I agree with the assessment of the brand. Even for beginners, consider starting with Soundstream or Fosgate for better quality at a reasonable price per watt. Don't be swayed by the Elite branding. Orion Cobalt or PPI amps offer better quality and performance right from the start. I will provide a detailed review of the amp's performance soon.
I have a pair of 6x9 JBL speakers in the rear and 6.5-inch JBL speakers in the front (no sub). The sound quality and power are excellent, but it overheats and stops, which is disappointing. Despite good airflow in my convertible car, the overheating issue makes me consider returning it. I bought an amplifier to enjoy loud music, not to worry about it cutting off at low volumes. Overall, I'm disappointed with this aspect, as many others have also mentioned it in their reviews.
The Boss audio amplifier is considered low quality for beginners. The new model has a maximum power output of around 650 watts RMS. It can power one subwoofer but not two, and definitely not at 1800, 2000, or 2500 watts. To calculate the maximum undistorted power output, add the fuses together and multiply by 12.7v.
I bought the Boss Elite BE1600.4 amplifier from a local store. It is compact with many features, but its claimed 1600 watts power is exaggerated. I estimate around 75-100 watts RMS per channel. I use it for two 6x9 speakers and a 10-inch sub, not bridged. I mounted it in the trunk with proper ventilation and quality wires. The amp lacks proper cooling, overheats quickly, and goes into protection mode. It gets very hot even at low volumes. It may not last long due to heat issues. If you prefer low volume levels, this amp could work for you, but it's not suitable for higher volumes. I wouldn't buy it again.
Disconnected the amp due to defects and read a review confirming poor quality. The stated wattage was exaggerated, causing the amp to cut out after a few songs. My audio installer noted the amp getting warm but not hot. It would go into protection mode, but restarting the car would reactivate it. To avoid similar issues, I switched to a class D amp that modulates electricity draw based on music intensity, unlike class AB amps like the Boss that draw a constant rate and can overheat.
One user found that the amp worked well with 4 x 6x9 speakers for a few hours, but when they connected their subs to a separate amp, the amp blew within 12 seconds. Despite removing all speakers and resetting, the amp remained in permanent protect mode. The user believes the amp is poorly designed and unable to handle its intended environment.
I bought this amp for its good power value, but after testing it with an SMD dyno tester, I found it delivered less than a quarter of its advertised wattage due to the fuses restricting its output. I recommend investing in a different, underrated amp for better performance, such as a Skar amp. As someone experienced in car audio, I always dyno test amps before installing them, and I won't be purchasing from Boss again.
