Well worth the investment

TKD Girl August 24, 2011

They are way more compact and convenient than multiple sets of dumbbells. It is a piece of cake to switch from one weight to another. Some reviewers have commented that it's strange that the weight selection dials rotate in opposite directions, but I do not find this inconvenient at all. Reviewers have also commented on the weights sticking. I have owned these dumbbells for about two months and have not yet experienced this, despite heavy use. My boyfriend has owned his set for approximately a year. His did start sticking about a month ago, but he cleaned them thoroughly per manufacturer's guidelines, and they are working perfectly now. The dumbbells themselves are larger than standard dumbbells, so they was a short adjustment period where they felt a little weird or awkward to use. However, that period passed quickly. I am a 41 year-old female who works out 6-7 days per week (3-4 days with weights). Having outgrown my lighter set (up to 25 pounds), I feel that the Bowflex weights will last me a good long time. They probably are not suitable for hardcore body builders who are training competitively or are used to throwing around Olympic style weights. You should NOT drop these dumbbells from a great height. I love this product and highly recommend it.

I wish we'd bought these years ago!

Randy & Lori April 16, 2024

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My wife and I both use these most days every week. We couldn't imagine NOT having them now. Best purchase we've made in years. Do yourself a favor, invest in your health and add these to your home gym

Beautiful craftsmanship only Bowflex can deliver

Joshua S. September 29, 2015

I wake up and begin lifting. It's so quick to change the weight that I save time in the morning. I start Monday's with chest and back, Tuesday's with arms and legs, Wednesday's with shoulders and triceps. I also throw abs in the mix. I repeat the process all over on Thursday. This has changed my life!

I would totally buy this product again!

Jessie April 2, 2024

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Using my weights everyday. Was wanting to buy heavier weights for some time now and when I saw Bowflex made these with changeable sizes I was sold. Using them is so easy, I can quickly change the amount of weight I want to use. Super easy to put together. Goes perfectly with my Bowflex Treadmill and Bike.

Best dumbbells I've ever owned.

Beeswing December 20, 2013

Bowflex really got it right with their SelctTech dumbbells. I like being able to move quickly from one exercise to the next using free weights. I've also found there is a real advantage in being able to have one end of the dumbbells heavier than the other, if you so desire. There are certain exercise that don't require the dumbbells to be balanced, e.g., overhead tricep press with one dumbbell.

SelectTech

Jim March 18, 2015

The weights are a little wider than I expected. This leads to having to hold the weights farther away From your body, for example when doing seated bicep curls. Not a show stopper. You just have to modify your Form in order to lift the weights without them contacting the bench

So Far So Good

boys2girls0 March 11, 2013

First of all, the weights arrived right on time. I had them delivered to my home for a few more bucks for the sake of convenience. It was worth it. I could have picked them up from the store, but I read from several reviews that the box was heavy and I didn't want to be embarrassed by struggling to lift the box into my vehicle. It wasn't as heavy as I thought they would be though. I bought the weights to use for P90X. The selecting switch is smooth, fast and easy to change weights between sets. The only annoying thing I found is that you have to turn one knob clockwise and the other counter clockwise. The plastic look doesn't bother me at all. It has a nice clean look to them. I never feel like the weights will come off. I didn't buy a stand, but the box they came in is very sturdy, but unsightly. If the box bothers you, you could just cover it with an old sheet, but it does fantastically and I saved $150+ buying a stand. So far, I have no complaints and am happy with the purchase.

A great starter set

Catt June 22, 2022

I started light weight training in physical therapy. Knowing that I wasn't going to join a gym when I was done with PT. I began looking for sets that gave me room to strengthen and didn't take up a lot of room. These give me a lot of flexibility and are low footprint in my house. It does take some getting used to that they are very long. All of the weights are the same length so you need to compensate compared to what you are used to. I also like the locking strap the discourages my grandchildren from messing with them.

Terrible new base

Training with Rachael July 3, 2022

I have purchased more than 15 pairs of the 552's for my fitness business. During Covid they changed the base. It is now hollow and flimsy. This makes them extremely difficult to carry them without the underside cutting into your fingers. Unfortunately this is a huge problem for me as I carry them from client to client. Will they be making the base the original way again or did they cheapen this wonderful product to cut costs?

Bait & Switch

Disappointed Lifter April 17, 2021

Bowflex redesigned the base of these dumbbells and shipped out a hollow flimsy base compared to the previous models. The funny thing is - the images on their website still show the higher quality base. I'm sure they are saving money by switching to the cheaper, flimsy base, but at what cost? I loved my older elect tech dumbbells, but over time the mechanism gets sticky and doesn't work as well. I upgraded to a new pair expecting the same quality as the older models but was sadly mistaken. When I reached out to customer service, I was told that's the base they offer now and that it works just fine - basically "deal with it". I can no longer champion this brand...
