I was so excited to get this and when it arrived we did everything to install it just to find out that the whole motherboard was flopping around inside of the unit and it wouldn't work even after fixing the motherboard. So I ordered another one right away and it came the same way however we were able to get it to work and it has been great every since. No more letting chickens in or out. It does have a setting for the sensitivity of light but it has been perfect
Works as described. My only complaint is that you can't get it to open/close opposite of what it does. My coop has a trap door that drops down, instead of sliding door that pulls up. I had to figure out a way to make this work backwards. I ended up using an old sledge hammer head. At night the device lets out the string and drops the hammer head down. I attached a wire to my trap door and to the hammer head. As the hammer head drops, it pulls the trap door closed. In the morning the device pulls the string attached to the hammer head back up. This let's the trap door go down, so the chickens can get back out. The hammer head weighs about 5 lbs. It seems to lift it without any issues. Would have saved me a ton of time if there was just a switch to flip.
It's touchy but that's probably because my door is shall we say crafty and not perfectly straight. It's easy to reset by taking batteries out with the door propped open and then put tension on the string after the batteries are back inside…it'll rewind the slack. It's a learning curve for sure thou.
No options to open or close when you need to. Just a brightness detector. I checked if it closed for the night and the motion detector light made it open for the rest of the night. Works rightsometimes. Locks the birds out sometimes also. Definitely not trusty. Better than nothing.
then the bead inside skipped it's knot and it wouldn't close anymore. had to cut the rope and restring the bead to try and get it working and now it won't open.
