We had a very old griddle we loved tried several others since we're not happy til we got this one happy again! We would definitely recommendo this one!
This was rated highly by Americas Test Kitchen so I spent the extra money and it makes the best pancakes and grill cheese...so even, no burnt stripes across the pancakes. Its a great investment! Its a little bigger than I thought and I have old small cabinets. But otherwise its great!
Great nonstick surface
First defect that I noticed, during the initial washing, is that the non-stick coating is not smooth. There are several very sharp points. The second defect, which takes an infrared thermometer to detect, is that the heating is not even. There are areas which are distinctly hotter and cooler than most of the rest of the griddle. The third defect is that the recommended temperature in the instructions is far, FAR too low, so I wouldn't trust the rest of those recommendations HOWEVER, those defects seems to significantly affect the cooking. I've cooked a couple batches of pancakes on it, and two entirely different types of French toast and they all came out well after a little experimentation to discover the relation between the thermostat and the griddle's heat. I think it's too expensive to have those problems but it is far superior to an almost new griddle I gave away because of massive temperature differences.
Our griddle has debris in the coating that may have been on the surface when it was coated at the factory, or there may have been trash in the non-stick coating when it was applied to the griddle surface; either way, it is shoddy craftsmanship. The griddle works but not optimally; it is functional but not a joy to use because I am very annoyed by the product's makers' lack of quality control inspection. We also don't like how the splatter guard attaches to the griddle.
Have cooked on this one time and it did a good job. Purchased this on the recomendation of America's Test Kitchen review.
Had this griddle 14 months and I'm disposing of it today. Was very happy with it for the first six months or so. The grit in the nonstick coating was off putting but it seemed to work. Gradually the cooking became more and more uneven where today the bacon over the element was burned while next to it was nearly raw. Gradual decline of non stick also but not unexpected. I would give it a 4 or 5 for 6 months but that length of time makes it a poor value in my book
We have purchased 3 or 4 of these over the years because they were always the best griddle on the market. Well let me tell you, this is no longer the truth. This is the 3rd one I have ordered this month. The first 2 came from Amazon since they were cheaper there and the 3rd one came from Walmart. I ordered from Walmart to see if maybe Amazon had received 2nd quality ones. That is not the case either. All 3 griddles came with a rough coating on the top. You can actually see the tan flakes of casting sand all under the non-stick surface. The sand is not supposed to be there. It is supposed to be cleaned off prior to spraying on the non-stick surface. Why is that a big deal? Well, when the sand does start coming off, it will also remove the non-stick surface and you will be eating that along with your food. How hard is it to just clean the surface prior to coating it???? This is the 3rd and final purchase. Regretfully, I will have to find a different brand. I am so sad about this because I have depended on their high quality for years. A great brand that has lost their vision of what made them so popular.
The skillet doesn't get hot enough to brown hashbrowns or meat. I maxed it out at 400 and it still didn't get hot enough. I contacted the seller and got no response from them, very disappointed in the product.
First time I plugged it in it began to smoke and most of the smoke was coming from the drip tray. I had difficulty pulling it out because it was melting to the heating element underneath! We almost had a fire. Seems like a serious design flaw!
