My old, much more expensive sewing machine broke recently in the middle of a project, and I needed to replace it immediately. I chose this one because of the numerous positive reviews. It is wonderfully easy to thread up and run (SO much easier than my old one) and has worked perfectly for the basic things that I need it to do. I am very, very happy with it. One word of caution is that it has many plastic parts that were metal on my old machine - for example, the needle foot - so I wonder if these would hold up to heavy use. However, I think it is a very nice machine at a great price.
Great machine for a novice to use. Before I only had a small craft sewing machine,....so this one is soooo much better. It worked for me right out of the box. One of the things that made me buy it was the fact that it was only 74.95 which was half price. I like that it has 17 stitches which can also be used in other ways, it came with other feet, came with 4 bobbins with one already in the machine and ready to use, it came with extra needles so if one would break or bend I would not have to go out somewhere and buy one before I could finish my project. I bought this through the ship to store option and they had it in stock, so I got it from the store, but they gave me the LX2600 at first instead, which also has 17 stitches,....but is not the same machine. I had wanted the JX2517 because of the great 4 or 5 star ratings and 100% of people would buy it again. When I got the wrong machine that they had given me, I checked the ratings which were not very good and only 85% of the people would buy it again. Some of the comments for the LX2600 were that the thread balled up at the bobbin. So, I wanted to know about this LX2600 machine which was the same price,...and if it was a good machine, I would not exchange it, but keep it. I called Brother and they said that the LX 2600 was an old machine and did not have very good ratings and said that the JX2517 was a much improved machine and they had fixed all of the items that LX2600 had difficulty with. So, in light of this fact, I took the LX2600 back to WalMart and got the correct machine that I had ordered the JX2517. I am so happy that I called Brother corporation and they gave me the "heads up" about the LX2600 and also told me about the JX2517. Buy the JX2517 and you won't be sorry.
So, I had wanted a sewing machine for awhile but didn't want to fork over a lot of money since I wasn't sure how much I would actually use it. I saw this on the BF special and decided that for 49.99, why not. I read other reviews on it and it seemed like a great purchase so I took the plunge. I LOVE IT! Not only is it freaking adorable, it's light weight but sturdy. For a first timer, I had this machine set up within 20 minutes after watching a few YouTube videos. It's very easy to use and I cannot wait to unlock my inner creativity with this! Definitely happy with my purchase.
I have a brand Brother sewing machine and love it and my daughter in law had a machine that was old and broke so I got her this one for a birthday gift early and as soon as she used it she sent me a text message that said "it sews iike a dream"..its easy to use and to thread and she has not stopped using it yet. We both are impressed very much and would definitely recommend it to others and it is a great price, great product & it even qualified for free shipping to home. Definitely is a great and sturdy sewing machine and she is enjoying it making her cloth baby diapers. Great product!
This sewing machine is great. It has different variations of stitches to use for multiple purposes. The fabric glides smoothly across for good even stitching. It is very easy to thread by just looking at the instructions. I haven't touched a sewing machine in years and I am by no means an expert sewer, but my projects so far have been decent using this machine. I really like that the plate on the bottom is see through to tell when I'm almost out of bobbin thread. It also has a little space for storage to have on hand. I also like how easily I access the thread cutter on the left side of the sewing machine (slide the threads to cut and keep on moving to the next stitch). It doesn't weight much so I can move it easily wherever I want to work. I haven't yet used all the features but the ones that I have, I can say have made me very satisfied.
This machine is fantastic! I have very basic skills as a sewer and with a little help from internet videos I'm having fun sewing craft projects. The machine is very basic and gets the job done - love it! I have had it for 3 weeks and have not had a problem. Great price as well.
I was so happy with how this sewing machine looks. I gave it to my grand daughter, who is 12 years old ,as a Christmas gift. She was so excited and opened it right away. It is a good solid machine. Not at all "toy"looking. Full size and has many interesting features. She was able to set it up and get it threaded all by herself. So it must be kid friendly to operate. By the end of the night she has sewed several different stitches on paper towels.
I bought this as a gift for my Mother because every time she loaned machine out, it came back not working as it should (of course, the borrow-er has no idea why). Since Mom lives with ME now, the machine will NOT leave the premises. If someone wants something sewn, bring it on over...Mom loves to sew. She's had trouble with the getting the tension of the stitches right on her previous machines, but she loves how easy this machine is to operate. If she has a question, I have the user guide handy. If that gets lost, I have the CD (what a wonderful idea). If my Mom is happy, I'm happy!!! Thank You Brother.
I bought this sewing machine to replace a Brother sewing machine that I have had for about 35 years. There is nothing wrong with the old one. I just got older and needed something lighter weight to pick up. My experience with the older one caused me to choose the Brother brand. I love the new one. Not only is it lightweight, it is simple to set up and sew with. The drop in bobbin is easy to thread and put in place with my not so nimble fingers and the sewing thread is easy to handle too. I will be sewing a lot more now and I think the 17 stitch JX2517 Brother will be perfect to teach my grand daughter to sew on.
I have always wanted to learn how to sew, and when I was a child I dreamed of starting my own fashion line! So, I started sewing about 6-8 months ago (mostly just to start a new hobby) and was using my mother-in-law's machine. It was an old Singer. Within a week I knew I wanted my own machine because I was LOVING making clothes, and I knew eventually she was going to need her machine back. My husband bought me this one for Christmas and it is wonderful! It is so much quieter than the older machine I used, has more of a stitch selection, and it doesn't mess up on me like the other one did. (At least not yet!) It took some getting used to at first, but I really love it. I have already made 3 dresses and a shrug for our daughters! The stitches are holding up wonderfully (even with my rough and tough toddlers!), and the dresses are so cute. It definitely does the job, and I have already recommended it to a friend!
