Great for the price and MY SKILL LEVEL!

LULUinBC September 19, 2016

My last sewing machine was purchased 40 years ago-- and even with all the bells and whistles I don't believe I ever made a button hole or used the embroidery-type stitches. When it finally went kaput I decided a new machine was necessary, but only one that was truly for beginner to intermediate type seamstresses. This Brother JX2517 was ideal! All the prior feedback assured me it was worth a try. I used it feverishly for a few days completing a sewing project I had started on my first machine, and was delighted to find it was easy to learn, fast, and, when I did encounter a tension issues- easy to troubleshoot (I had the bobbin threaded incorrectly). I'm super happy! May even try to make my own Halloween costume now!

Not bad for the price!

Yvette April 14, 2020

Purchased this to learn to sew masks for this crazy time we are living in right now. The last time I used a sewing machine was about 30 years ago, so I consider myself a beginner. It was very easy to follow/set up and seems to be working well and I have been running it for a few days now. The few issues I have had were user errors.

A pretty understanding machine.

RenamonDancer May 13, 2014

I am starting to work with plushes, sewing stuffed animals and costumes via commission work. After my first machine broke, I had taken the time to do hand sewing for these products, and it just didn't cut it. I needed another machine. Though maybe it was dumb of me to go for a cheaper machine, this sewing machine has really helped me out with my products so far! The only thing that happens is that the thread ends up getting loose and tangled, BUT that's definitely because sometimes I accidentally thread over the tension dial instead of properly threading under it. (I can be forgetful, oops.) To me, if you take your time with this machine when working with it, it gets you places in your projects well. It really does what the provided instructions and tutorials say it does. This is a good machine for everyone with their hobbies and if you need something for awhile reasonably priced for what you do with it, try it out!!

Sew and go

Pinterestaddict February 9, 2014

I used my roommates older version to sew a baby quilt and was impressed. I bought this version had it shipped to store and it arrived the next day! The moment it arrived I purchased some denim needles and hemmed 7 pairs of jeans. I will admit I have a much nicer sewing machine at home but didn't think I would need it when I left for school and 2 years later it's still not something I'm going to ship back to me plus my younger sister has started to use it. So with quite a few projects I wanted to get done I just bought this and have not been disappointed.

Great sewing machine

BadSister February 16, 2014

The sewing machine is what it was advertised to be. It works excellent. I have tried all the different stitches as of now, but haven't as of yet tried a lot of the other features, but am sure they will work just fine. I recommend this machine to anyone.

Sewing Machine for Granddaughter

TampaGram January 1, 2014

Excellent! SUPER deal. Granddaughter delighted. Best price and ship to store was a tremendous plus for buying from Walmart. From Tampa FL to Helena MT; ready for pick-up in one hour! NO HEADACHES, NO HASSLES. And decisions could be made on the spot as to whether this was what my granddaughter had in mind. I will use this service in the future. Also only $9 for replacement service for 2 years. I tell you, this deal cannot be beat. The machine is superb...rave reviews.

Nice machine

gypsy4050 March 22, 2014

Wanted just a simple inexpensive machine and this is it. It could have a little more punch through thicker fabric but it is a good machine for basics. I do not sew as much as I used to just needed one for mostly mending, etc. It is a nice machine would buy it again

Good product. Meet my expectations

QueenEllis2 November 30, 2013

I am happy with the purchase overall. I used it to extend sleeves of my shirt on the second day. It worked well. Multiple stitches allow you to choose for differen purposes. A couple of issues (actually not issues but need to be careful and spend more time) I would like to mention: 1) The instruction is not obvious or as easy as I thought. It took me a little longer to understand. They should do a better job on instruction manual or quick reference guide 2) You'd better try on scrap for a particular stitch type. Otherwise, it will be very difficult for you to undo it. You can not rely on the picture of stitch on machine for the effect on your clothes.

Upgrade if you can afford it

TulumChica December 18, 2013

I have been sewing for many years - apparel and home decor. I purchased the Brother CS6000i a few years ago to have a lightweight, not too expensive machine at my home in Mexico. I have been very pleased with the features and performance of the CS6000i. After a sudden, unplanned return to the US for my husband's medical care, I purchased the Brother JX2517 to use while I am here, thinking it would be of the same overall quality as the CS6000i, but with fewer features. So far it has performed satisfactorily in the small projects I have done, but the overall feel of the machine is cheap, almost toy-like. You can't adjust the stitch length and width. The most used stitch lengths with alternate needle positions are part of the "17 stitches." I really miss the automatic needle threader. Even if you are a beginning sewer, do yourself a favor and upgrade to the CS600i if you can.

Seems to do the job

TrulyNoviceSewer May 14, 2014

I haven't had to thread the bobbin yet so can't tell how that will do. The top threading is easy enough. I am NOT normally a sewing person. There seems to be a problem with the reverse button - as it doesn't work at all. I shall have to call Brother to determine the cause. I also found I cannot use my old bobbins because they are metal & this machine only uses a certain plastic type. I do appreciate the extra machine needles. I wish it had a handle. It would be easier to lift. For the money, it's fine. Do like the flowers decorating the machine. Very "girly."
