Love it. I grew up in Australia and got a D- on my home ec test because i couldnt wrap my brain around threading the machine! I borrowed another persons machine a few years back to try and give it another go, it was a terrible disaster, too much to figure out! Then i said- well if i buy my own- then ill be forced to work it out because i spent the money. I did lots of research and everyone said great things about this 'beginner' machine. I sat myself down, read and reread the instructions and in one hour I had threaded the machine all by myself! Not just that, but thanks to the diagram on the actual machine, i now thread it without instructions and it only takes me a few minutes! I conquered my fear and in a few weeks have made three purses and two dresses! Dont give up and get this great, affordable, easy to understand machine, its great! ps, my sister just bought one on my recommendation
this is my second Brother machine. It is light weight and easy to work with. I would recommend this machine for someone just learning to sew or someone more advanced.
great little machine. ive had mine now for over 4 years and use it all the time. i work in a shop of 30 people. i take care of 75% of the uniform we wear, and never had a minutes problem out of it. not to mention the home projects i use it for all so.
I'm a senior citizen who never used a sewing machine. My main problem is finding jeans with the right leg length. So I got this little gem and taught myself some basics. The included manual is clearly written. Right now the lock stitch serves my current needs to hem shortened jean legs. I've done some practice button holes for fun and am amazed how easy it is. It's basic alright, but perfect for a sewing beginner.
I just need a machine to make curtains, pillows, hems and minor repairs to clothing. I am not a big sewer. I didn't want to spend a lot of money. This machine does what I need and more at a great price. I have not had it long. I have made two pairs of curtains already and it works very well. It was very easy to get up and running. It doesn't appear to be as sturdy as my last machine which was almost 35 years old when it gave out. It is made with thinner plastic. The pedal concerns me the most in terms of how long it might last. We shall see how it holds up. It is nice and light which is good for putting it away on the closet shelf when not in use.
I wanted a machine that was not computerized with simple instructions and limited stiches and that it was I received. I am very pleased with this Brother sewing machine - the accesssories are great and the bobbin is easy to set up if you follow the instructions closely.
Replaced an older model Brother with this one. Good value for the price. Does a nice job, easy to use, lightweight. A nice portable machine.
I purchase this Sewing machine for simple projects. & I'm still learning about the settings. One thing I do recommend is to pay attention to when you take out the parts to put the bobbin in. It took me a while to get it back together. There is also a youtube video that will show you how to put it back together.
I bought this machine because I was in college and needed something basic and cheap. It turned out to be more hassle and cause more problems than its worth. The bobbin gets stuck and jams constantly, no matter how thin the fabric I'm sewing. It usually gets stuck on the first stitches I sew, ripping and shredding the fabric. I would recommend saving some more money and buying a sewing machine that actually does its job.
I purchased this machine on Site-To-Store based on the fairly high number of "5" ratings received for it. However, I have yet to successfully sew a single hem. I purchased the machine to make simple hems for curtains (three young children). The material is not heavy duty like demin, it is cotton. Each time I try to use the machine, thread balls up and jams the machine under the material. I have spent so much time pulling thread balls out from the machine, and wasted so much thread, that I can't imagine keeping this machine. I have followed all troubleshooting tips in the book, including cleaning the bobbin (and casing), rethreading the machine, and even called the Customer Service number. I have ensured that the needle size and thread weight are correct for the type of material I am using. All to no avail. I will be reboxing the machine and exchanging it for some other machine. It's been a terrible disappointment, and the curtains are draped over all the kitchen chairs, still unhemmed.
