We've had our single needle for 6 years. We use to have a store in a mall and had a 12 needle machine. I think the single needle machine sews better with less thread breaks than the 12 needle. The single needle is a great choice with excellent results.
Just attended an Anita Goodesign event in Knoxville, TN. This machine was brought in for a test drive. I sewed on it all day. It is so easy to use, is a great size, and a reasonable price! This is the only Brother that comes with a hat frame. This allows you to embroidery so much more than you can on your flatbed home embroidery machine. And, yes, I purchased it on the spot. This is just perfect for me since I make all of my gifts. Just a whole new world in embroidery for the home embroiderer. Definitely recommend adding this to your wish list. Christmas is just around the corner.
I am so pleased with my PRS100. I have done a lot of hats in the past few weeks. You see we have a very large family and our children, their spouses, our grandchildren, and our great-grandchildren are all receiving embroidered hats for their birthdays this year! My husband also asked me to do designs on some of his pockets. They turned out great!
I should say exciting AND intimidating. I have been in the sewing business for years on a Brother that must be 60 years old. No bells or whistles, goes forward and backwards. My new PRS100 has so many advanced features that I sat and stared at it for a day! I studied the manual and jumped in. What an amazing machine. It is very user friendly and works like a dream. I have been working on it for about three weeks and am having a blast. My suggestion for new owners - shut off your cell phone, turn off your TV, get rid of hubby and the kids and concentrate! This machine is predictable but you have to concentrate. Soooo many options. My suggestion to Brother - come up with a light we can purchse for thread guide number 6. I purchased Brother brand because of the excellent reliability of my previous machine. Let's see if this one will last 60+ years.
I'm so glad I decided on this machine when upgrading from Brothers SE-625. I had looked at multi-needle machines but this single needle tubular is great for my needs. This is a hobby, not a business and a multi-needle would have been way more than I needed. The PRS-100 is the best of both worlds. The Walmart description is incorrect, as it claims the cap embroidery hoop is included, a $1,000 item. It is NOT. After several phone calls, customer service made it right. The machine is easy to use but very touchy. It gives a lot of 'check upper and lower thread' messages. Thankfully the bobbin is easy to reach without taking the hoop off. After 6 months of light use, I feel comfortable with it and hope it is durable.
I love this machine. The hooping system is so much easier for people with disabilities that affect their hands. I used it to make a wedding gift of Embossed Monogram Towels this past week. The only con that I have about this machine is the threading at steps 6 and 7. There needs to be a tool made to help with threading through the hole at 6 as it is a tad bit dark in that spot. The clip at 7 is hard to do the way Brother shows it to be done. I found if you lower your needle it makes it much easier to see the clip and thread it that way. The other is I so wished this machine was out when I bought my first embroidery machine 4 years ago. I highly recommend this machine to anyone that struggles with hooping on the standard home embroidery machines. I find the 8" x 8" hoop size perfect. Would be nice to have an 8" x 10" hoop for this machine some day.
I had been using a very basic embroidery machine and knew I wanted a bigger and better one but didn't want yo pay thru the nose. This machine fit the bill perfectly. It is doing all that I want or need right now but I should have taken the class to learn all that it could do and how to do it.
The next to the last hole for threading this machine is in a dark blue. It should be white, with a light there. I have to hold a flashlight in my mouth to see that hole in order to insert the thread there. The largest frame is not big enough for as big as this machine is. I regret buying this machine and wished I had bought a more portable machine!
I've had my machine for 5mo and it's given me nothing but problems. Tension is super touchy. The computer on it went out and it's been back at the dealer now for a month! Parts have been hard to get. I'm honestly fed up. When it works it does a beautiful job, but the constant issues has taken a toll.
i got this machine to specifically do hats... Maybe 4 have come out perfect, and the other 50 have all been a mess. It continues to keep getting worse! It will do most of the hat good and then it will only start showing the bobbin thread instead of the color thread. I have tried all the trouble shooting and have been struggling with this machine for several weeks! not worth the price tag!
