This is really a great machine. A real powerhouse. It doesn't have a bunch of bells and whistles but it does a fantastic job of keeping my seams straight when quilt piecing. It also sews through thick items. It took me a bit to figure out the threader. There are YouTube videos available to help with this though.
Straight stitch machine is easy to use, sews through anything thick or thin...denim or chiffon . Great for general garment sewing as well as quilts, handbags... you name it.
I have had this machine for 6 months and would highly recommend. Wonderful straight stitch machine. I am able to piece while my embroidery machine is working. I also have a niece in fashion design and she has used this machine with great success. It stitches a wide variety of material.
I have six machines..including a nice Pfaff that does it all and several older machines that are just fun to use. But I have noticed since purchasing this machine, that this is the one I find myself sitting in front of..like all the time! It is a workhorse. I do all my piecing and machine quilting on it and that about sums it up. I am thinking of buying a second one because if this one goes down, I really will be lost..but my friend who also owns one says it is made of " iron " and will never go down! She's right..they are so sturdy and yet portable..a wonderful machine..hope I never have to be without it!
This is my first straght stitch machine so I cannot really compare. I like the Brother Products and machines. I do love many of the features this model has, 1) the thread cutter has save me time and a whole bunch of thread and mess. 2) it has taken my quilt making to the next level the larger harp and extended bed is a great plus.
I bought a Brother PQ1500SL after struggling with a Juki 2010Q machine for 2 1/2 years. I was never able to complete even one quilt on the Juki without having issues with thread nests, the machine locking up, etc., not to mention the need to oil the machine after every few hours of use. I retired during 2017 and make quite a few quilts. The Brother has made my life stress-free while quilting. It quilts beautifully and I've had no issues with it. Also, the Brother machine costs less than the Juki. If you're looking for a good sit down quilt machine, buy the Brother PQ1500SL and save yourself hours of frustration!
Got this for Christmas. Have started my first quilt and breezed through the quilting in less than a week. I absolutely LOVE this machine. And it's so quiet. I would definitely recommend this machine to anyone who's a beginner or intermediate quilter!
I was brought this machine after my(a professional seamstress) passed away. I had the machine, knee bar, a bobbin. I had no power source, manual or experience. Bobbi Ann (Brother Nouvelle PQ1500 shares moms name) has been the best machine. I downloaded the manual, bought foot pedal and power source and away we went. Very easy to learn and teach others on. I've had her now for 12 + years. She is still my everyday machine. I do piecing quilts, FMQ, mending , sews like butter through the thickness of denim or anything else. I keep her cleaned and serviced myself because she's that easy. It took a minute to get used to the speed. Like going from driving a chevette to a corvette . Recommend the additional space of the extension table. The automatic thread cutter will spoil you. I never mastered threader. Very durable machine.
New to quilting, and after accumulating many quilt tops which I could not afford to have quilted by a long armer, I began to quilt on my Brother cs6000i. By the time I finished my first quilt (a king size) on it, I knew I needed to make a change, and had started a list of what would make things better: a larger harp space, large table area, a thread cutter, an auto needlle threader, good lighting and compatible with the Brother Dream Frame, which I dream about owning sometime in the future. Most important, it had to fit my budget constraints. My 1500SL has it all, even a knee lift! She was up, ready, and running right out of the box!. No tension issues, threading issues or breaking threads. Yes, the thread cutter cuts short, but it does not interfere with sewing. If you need to see long thread tails, use tweezers to pull bobbin thread up. I have no complaints. If I had a suggestion, it would be to install an idiot light to indicate that the bobbin thread was about to run out. Larger bobbins would be good too! Other than that, this was the best decision I ever made!
I love this machine, it's strong, powerful super fast. I wish that they would have put the older style needle threader and drop style bobbin. The needle threader is impossible to use especially if your ilder with bad eyes. The bobbin case is difficult to line up and insert because of the location. It would be SO amazing if this machine did a zigzag stitch. With 2 stitches, the straight and the zigzag it would put this machine into one of the best I've owned. Other than those 3 things I love it .
