My previous sewing machine was a Brother I purchased from Walmart 24 years ago. All of a sudden the motor locked up. I took it in for service but they recommended I just get an updated model. I purchased the Brother CE1100PRW partly because of the Project Runway Name but mostly because the price was right and it has 100 Stitch settings. It has not disappointed. I had a stack of mending and sewing projects to finish when the other one went out. I made sofa slip covers (heavy weight fabric), running compression shorts (lycra) and sheers. The machine handled all the fabrics with no effort. I could not believe how quiet this machine is and the elastic stitch worked perfectly to hem my sons work out pants he wanted cut off. I would definitely recommend this machine to moderate sewers who want to try some new techniques.
Of course, going to a computerized machine after having just plain sewing machines, is a challenge. I can't wait to learn how to do all the fancy stuff. I am just getting back into sewing after having a long layoff, I am not and never was a dedicated sewer. I am trying my hand at quilting, and hope to get goog enough to make a quilt.
I am the proud owner of another Brother sewing machine I just love it!! I owned one once before and used it for 18 years I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to operate The computerized stitches really worried me but its delightfully easy to use and does a great job!!
I have always been in the camp that purchasing sewing machines from a brand specific dealer is the best way to go. This little machine changed my mind. Most of my sewing experience has been on my mother's Bernina from the early 1990's. That machine sews like a luxury car. That should give an idea of my standards. With this Brother, I was sewing within 10 minutes out of the box. The machine itself handles with the ease of the Bernina and the stitches are of equal quality. The user manual is worth reading, not only does it offer clear directions for operating the machine, but it also has valuable skills information that is clearly presented and it offers a table that explains which needle and thread to use for specific fabric types. The stitch selection itself is excellent and easy to use. The stitches are all printed on the side of the machine with their corresponding numbers, no need to keep a book handy. The included presser feet all display a letter designation which becomes clearly useful when choosing stitches on the machine. The small monitor will display the letter corresponding to the presser foot necessary for the stitch selected. After finishing a quilt top and making a couple bags, I'm confident that this machine will continue to meet my sewing needs in the future and I would recommend it to most beginning and intermediate sewists.
A wonderful light machine that does everything it says it does. I had a 40 yr old Kenmore with the cams so this new technology of digital everything is new to me. Definitely user friendly. I had no trouble with settings. I'm a little clumsy with the bobbin filling, pretty good with the needle threader. If I had one complaint it would be that it didn't jump over the pins well. Maybe there is a special foot for jumping pins but I haven't gone that far yet. Best part, no oil. Just clean the lint periodically.
I am an avid costumer and seamstress. I do a lot of historical reenacting, and make a lot of items for friends and family. For the past 8 years, I've used my old workhorse (also purchased from Walmart) the Singer Simple. It did it's job well. But as my skills with sewing grew, I needed something better. My mother was gifted a Brohter sewing machine this past Christmas, and she needed my help setting it up. I was impressed with the ease of winding the bobbing, and threading the needle. I especially liked the the bobbin is a top loading one, with a clear plate so you can see how much you are using. The regular foot has a clear bottom, which makes it super helpful when sewing over straight lines. It's amazing! I would definitely recommend this to someone who is a novice. A beginner can use it too, just have patience. The best features for me, besides the clear bobbin tray and foot are the embroidery stitches (which I have used already), the different options for feet, and the fact that not only is the bobbin easy to load, I don't have to worry about adjusting the thread tension for both the bobbin thread and the spool like on my singer. It automatically knows! I love this machine, and I am so glad I brought it. I also purchased the 2 year warranty, just in case anything happened to it. Below is a black chemise that I made using the machine. The silver and black brocade vest I did not make, I actually purchased it at Pennsic
My daughter who is nine years old has been attending a fashion Institute for a few months. They only use this particular model and it's easy to see why. It's a very good machine and simple enough that it suits young kids learning to sew. I was so happy I found it at Walmart. Ordered online and pick up in the store was a breeze.
My sewing machine, 45 yrs. old, finally gave out. I wasn't doing much with it, mostly just mending, sewing on buttons, darning jeans, that sort of thing so I wasn't looking for something really fabulous, and to be honest I chose this machine because the price would fit into my budget. what a surprise, I had never used a machine that was computerized and this is fantastic, its so much fun to sew again, I have begun to make clothing for myself this time. the old machine was mostly purchase to make clothes for my son when he was little, but this is much different now, I recently lost my husband and was looking for something to fill the empty space in my life and this machine had done it. My cousin just gave me a Brother 1034d over locker for my birthday as she has seen such a change in my attitude since I got the machine and now I am really ready to go. you will love this machine if you get it.
This was a replacement for another just like it, that I purchased in store 3-4 years ago. I quilt, and seem to be on one project or another DAILY so I wear out machines. At the price this is the best I have ever found. My other still works but this cost LESS than a good overhaul of the old one. SUPERIOR VALVE AT THE PRICE
I am pretty new at sewing. The instructions included in the manual were a bit confusing since they pertained to other possible units. Once I figured that out, it was easy to thread the machine and bobbin and begin some projects. The one strange thing that keeps taking place is that the machine needs a lot of re-threading, despite having a full spool of thread and being properly threaded. Other than that, I think I will enjoy having it and using it.
