For years I thought that I didn't need a cutting machine since I don't do paper crafts and it won't do very many shirts or cups. YouTube showed me that it does so much more. I wanted a machine for cutting small sewing projects - shaped patches, applique, wallets, embroidery projects, etc. I researched several brands and decided that the Scan and Cut would best fit my needs. I went into Canvas Workspace to see how much of a learning curve there was going to be and had my first project planned before I purchased the machine. It's amazingly easy to use (there are a lot of online resources) and the results are fabulous. I thought I might use vinyl once in a while, after doing my first vinyl project, I have 3 more planned. So glad that I made this purchase and am looking forward to many years of crafting with it.
I was never one to want a Cricut or anything like it. It wasn't my cup of tea. Well, after purchasing my sewing machine the place where I purchased it offered me the Scan n Cut for a sale price. At first I was hesitant but then I found out it could cut out appliqués and I was sold! I have made everything from my finished product to the price tags on this machine! Oh, and it communicates with my Brother PR1055X! I do wish they would have kept some of the add on kits because I do project videos and my followers love watching me do anything and everything on this machine and I have to say, if you sew or if you craft…YOU NEED THIS! -Holly, Cozy Cottage Crafting
The machine is great, but wish more information came with it on how to use it it's trial and error for me, fabric cutting is why I purchased it. Still not sure how to use with heat and bond on fabric first time I put the paper side down that was a big mistake never fully got all the paper off my fabric mat, had to get it wet to remove the paper. The machine works wonderful when you know how to use it. The symbols are hard to understand their function wish a cheat sheet came with the machine to understand their meaning.
I love how my scan and cut can link to my Brother XP3 sewing machine to cut out fabric for appliqués for embroidery projects. I am looking forward to finding out more - the possibilities are endless.
I saw this machine being used when my local dealer was on with a ZOOM BOM meeting and was very impressed. While I doubted that little 'ol me could make it work the same way, I had several chats with Lisa (store owner) and gained confidence that I could trust the SDX325 to do what she had demonstrated so I ordered it. When I brought it home and started to play with it I was astonished at the things I could do. I was cutting fabrics and applique pieces with no hassle or wondering if I had the pressure and speed set correctly. I am truly in love with this machine.
The perfect machine if you enjoy applique` quilting. It is easy to operate and self explanatory in many cases.
Wish it came with a manual. For what they change, it should. I finally printed the whole manual out and now I'm going to have it bound. Just too much information to keep in my head. I'll let you know how it goes once I have more time to use it.
The machine is great it cuts well and does most thing easily. However whenever I tried to save my designs on a memory stick it keeps telling me it has a special character and cannot be saved. Why? It's going on a memory stick it should be able to store it all. Registration was an absolute pain. I had to have like three programs open to register this. One on the machine one with artspira and canvas. Canvas is also very challenging in that I can't figure out how to import something and get the cut data. Also every time I try to export data it tells me that the cut data won't be transferred that is going to s cut machine. So I would think the cut data is pretty important. Artspira is good but very limited as to what you can save unless you buy the premium. Would love to know more about the editing capabilities of canvas. The videos are hard to follow because it goes through so quickly.
The cutter doesn't work well on vinyl I have purchased the auto rotary cutter and blades but I'm forced to use a double cut to get satisfactory results. The Artspira/canvas workspace is horrible and very limited in the versatility. Circuit work space has so much more functionality.
Brother doesn't provide any instructions with their products! I had no idea I would have to do fabric preparation (starch and iron etc) prior to placing fabric on the very expensive cutting mat! Do to the lack of instructions, I ruined my 35.00 fabric cutting mat. Had to buy a new one in addition to the special starching products. This was a very expensive lesson learned the hard way! Brother has fantastic products that are difficult to learn to operate and use do to their lack of instructions!
