I've been hand sewing all my life and am new to using sewing machines. I really like the automatic tension and how the machine recommends the foot to use with the stitch. There's good weight to the machine, too. I needed something that could handle stuff like vinyl, leather, faux fur, etc.
I bought it a few months ago and have been very happy with it. It's much better than my previous sewing machine. It sews delicate fabrics like chiffon and satin beautifully, handles soft leather well, and runs very quietly
ease of use
I got this as a replacement for my last Brother Sewing machine, though it wasn't a heavy duty one. We've been using it for a month not and so far, no issues! I love everything about it, especially that it handles thicker seams much much better than my previous machine, though the only thing that could be different is the placement of the stitch dial on the side, it spins with ease to choose the stitch type, though that in itself is also a downside, because if you have a larger piece of material you're working with, it can potentially hit that dial and change your stitch type as you're sewing, so that's a bit annoying, though not a deal breaker, because I just placed some tape over it when I'm working with larger pieces of fabrics.
I'm very happy with this machine. It's my first computerized sewing machine, so it takes a little getting used to. I love how slow and steady the stitches can go when you're in a tricky spot. I love all the different choices of stitches that it has. The automatic threading contraption is really nice at my age. The one thing that I kind of feel "meh" about is the automatic buttonhole. Don't get me wrong, it's great if you are actually sewing on a button along with the buttonhole. But sometimes you need to do a buttonhole (like for a drawstring) and you don't have a button for it, so it makes it difficult to figure out the correct size for the buttonhole. And, there is no way to switch and just do a manual 4-step button hole (for example). That would be a nice addition - the option to do a manual 4-step button hole. Yes, you could do it manually like really from scratch, but no one wants to have to do that, lol. I have not had any issues working with denim or other thick fabrics. Denim is actually my favorite to work with which is why I wanted a "heavy duty" machine, for all those layers. I would never force any sewing machine to power through a bunch of thick layers on it's own motor power, though - I usually hand-crank the needle through those areas myself. I don't love the "overcast" stitches on this machine and so I've been using my serger to neaten fabric edges. I have found that for more flimsy fabrics, the overcast stitches pull the edge of the fabric in really tight which then makes your pattern piece smaller, and I don't want to have to think too hard about what my new seam allowances should be, lol. Not a huge deal or even a deal breaker - most (all?) machines are like this. But like I said, I really am fond of this machine and am happy I purchased it. I hope it lasts for years and years. I've had it for a few months now and have done at least a half dozen projects with it ranging from tote bags to evening wear. So far so good!
Your service with fast and efficient. I got everything I was promised. You kept me posted as to when the machine would be delivered. I haven't sewn on the machine very much yet but I think I'm going to like it.
I am so sorry to say that the zigzag stitch produced “bridging” or “tunneling” (scrunched up the fabric in the middle of the stitching). I bought the machine because my trusty, more expensive Brother started doing the same thing after sewing through too many thicknesses of fabric. I had previously tried without success to have the problem fixed on my old machine, so ordered this new “ST” model. I tested the zigzag right out of the box without adjusting thread tensions or any other factory settings.
I bought the sewing machine with 6 packs of thread. But I only received the sewing machine without the thread. I contacted with Walmart and was told to refund about $40 for thread. After two weeks I have not received the refund. I have to contact with Walmart. This time only robot responded to me and let me to contact the seller.
It's making a clacking noise when I sew. I'm dissatisfied.
not heavy duty
