This is the first sewing machine I've ever owned and for a beginner I feel like it's a perfect machine! Very easy to set up and very easy to use! I am super pleased with this machine!
Thread never breaks, sews smoothly and you can adjust the needle position for perfect 1/4 inch seams or any width seam you want. I hemmed 2 pair of jeans recently. Sews right thru denim. Making a quilt right now!
This Brother XR3774 has been a God send. I had not touched a sewing machine since high school home economics class, decades ago; but this one got me up to speed real fast! The instructional DVD included was completely helpful, pleasant sounding instructor, easy to follow instructions; and I totally LOVE the background music. This Machine was affordable, sturdy, easy to use; and stylishly designed. We are a family with many Brother products; and very happy to now have this as an addition to our Brother products family. Thanks A Million & Perpetual Success to all of you! Add Love! ™
This is one of the quietest, smoothest machines I have ever had the privilege of owning. I am so happy that I purchased this machine and will do so for my Granddaughter when the time comes. This machine is just right to bring when traveling or if need be, take to classes.
I have returned to sewing in late middle age, and this is the first sewing machine I have owned since high school. I did a considerable amount of research before my purchase, and I think I made a very good decision with this machine. Pros? Comes with SO many specialized 'foots' and accessories that I have been able to grow into. Especially considering the reasonably low price. Additionally, Brother support lasts for 365 days after purchase, there are lots of videos on line, and there is an English speaking, USA based customer service number. Very happy with this machine.
I've only done a few small projects on this machine so far, but I am very happy with it. It is easy to use (the bobbin took a few tries) and the stitch quality is excellent. This is good for a beginner or an experienced sewer. I bought three similar machines to teach beginners on, and so far everyone has done well with them.
This was a gift and I'm thrilled about all this machine can do. I'm still learning about the features but definitely happy to own this product.
I have a hard time getting this machine to sew. It doesn't want to star or move forward to sew. Then, I used the Walking Foot the other day for thick fabric, and I had to push it through. I was using the heavy fabric needle, but it doesn't want to sew over 3 or 4 layers of fabric! Also, I have a hard time getting my fingers into the area to change the needle with that dime sized screwdriver! Very small area for changing a needle. My machine has been looked at by the Dealership in Eugene & they say, there is nothing wrong. I have been sewing for 60 years, so I know sewing machines, and this one is stubborn!
I (foolishly) went through 3 of these in a matter of several weeks. I should have just returned the first one and been done but I've never had an issue with Brother prior to this so it was hard to believe! One machine got stuck in reverse within a week of using it. The other two skipped stitches whe. Using any stitch that had the needle move left to right. The right hand stitch on the third machine wouldn't stitch at all.
Unreliable. I bought 9 of these machines to teach sewing classes. I spend more time troubleshooting than sewing with my students. They are cheaply made. Thread tangles a lot. Self threader is too difficult to use especially for my older and very young students. Screwdriver is laughable and too small to be useful. Tension is a constant problem. No spool top holders included. Needle and foot screws fall out from the machine vibrations. Stitch guide is backwards. Buttonhole foot is difficult to use. Overall not efficient or reliable.
