Buffalo is a great unit for data backup especially for pictures and videos. Am able to access through the web. Great unit.

Buffalo default settings says it auto switches between SMB 1.0 and 2.0. That's not true. So the FIRST thing to do during setup preferably is go to the "Advanced Settings" and switch it from "Auto" to SMB 2.0. Then turn off the NAS and restart. This would have saved me about 2 hours of investigation. It will work out of the box if you add SMB 1.0 to Windows Features. (Win 10 %26 11 do not have SMB 1.0 enabled.) Otherwise, out of the box, it will show literally nothing after NASNavi detection. Buffalo does try to get various drives they certify. The drives in one I bought are Western Digital Purple surveillance drives. Not a bad choice. I don't expect top of the line drives for the low price of this unit. It's nice not having to purchase and install drives. It does a credible job in the field. I would not use it for more than 3 users backing up, nor is it the best "streaming" server. For an individual needing a RAID NAS, you can't beat this price.

Buffalo's Quick Setup Guide is not only confusingly ordered but provides misinformation as well. It's photos don't match what appeared on my Dell windows 11 computer nor did the written instructions. I was only able to setup the system with the aid of Google AI and youtube. Should not have been the case.
Network attacged storage was great for a few days, until the drives fillled up with data. Then changing the drives with new ones created a nightmare that ended up with the unit sidelined.
NAS configures properly. Mac running 15.5 "sees" NAS but time machine will not link. THis is a big issue on internet. Put in about 6 hours fiddling. Gave up
This thing doesn't perform well the transfer speeds are slow and the companion apps won't even download from the apple app store. Not a very good product. And the one that was shipped to me still had someone elses username and share folders on it!
