Burpee 72-Cell Super Growing Pellets – Perfect for

sushant February 7, 2026

These growing pellets are fantastic for starting seeds indoors! They expand easily with water, creating a perfect, soil-like environment for seedlings. Each pellet holds moisture well, so my seeds stayed consistently damp without overwatering. They fit perfectly in all Burpee seed starting trays, making setup quick and mess-free. I’ve tried starting different types of seeds, and germination has been excellent—strong, healthy seedlings every time. Cleanup is also simple since the pellets are compact and easy to handle. For anyone serious about starting plants indoors, these pellets make the process much easier and more efficient. Highly recommend! 🌱🌿

garden seed must have.

linda February 10, 2026

i love these little things. they keep my seeds tidy and don't allow the wind to take them away if i happen to be outside potting them up. plus there is no mess of any kind. over the season the disintegrate which is a win for the garden. Store some of theses, you will use them. they are that good and the growing little plants have a perfect root bed.

WALMARTSHOPPER April 10, 2026

These are less messy then a bag of dirt.Easy and false to get pods to expand in very warm water. The price could be lowered.Compared to a bag these cost a lot more and the only advantage is less mess for started seeds but a mess transplanting them unless you use those mesh bags that can go in ground.I wasn't thinking and used my tiny potters when I have thee mesh bags.Next time I won't be in a hurry and actually think more.I will buy these again for starters but for larger pots a bag of soil is cheaper and faster to fill. These also are good soil and my flower seeds are all growing after a couple days planting.

Small, but super growers

Martin April 1, 2026

They are small (see photo for size comparison) but they really are "super growing." If you are filling the "Burpee SuperSeed 16 XL Cell Seed Starting Tray" it takes two pellets to fill each cell to a good level. Time will tell on the plant growth since the seeds just went in today.

Proven results!

Mary March 28, 2026

These are the best pellets I have every used! They work really well for my indoor seedlings. I love the size, the simplicity of using them, and my seedlings germination rate is off the charts. I do use them with the Burpee Self-Watering trays, so that just adds less stress to the waiting time for the seedlings to sprout. Great product, great price!

Great, as long as you place them correctly.

Morgan April 15, 2026

These are great and very convenient; however, if you are using a standard tray with plastic cells that narrow at the bottom, you should know that you need to carefully place the pellets flat side-up before adding water, or they'll get jammed and won't fully expand. I made the mistake of just dropping them in on my first go-round, and ended up cracking several of my cells trying to dislodge the pellets so they could fully expand. Ultimately, I had to purchase a new tray and second set of these pellets before i could start my seedlings, and I really wish the instructions had just mentioned this, because it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration. That said, as long as you place them correctly, they work great! They're much more convenient and less messy than rehydrating the blocks or using bags of starter mix, and there's no waste. My germination rate was great, too, so this is ultimately a product I'd recommend as long as they're used correctly. I'll probably use them again next year.

Not for the serious gardner

Anonymous July 11, 2025

All pods are not created equal. Some poofed right up, others stuck like mud in the tip of the planter ... one so tight I had to dig it out with scissors. No amount of water helped, the surface had to be cracked once I got it out for it to expand. Some got so big I crumbled them and used them to fill two pods. Some didn't even double in size. Quite inconsistent! There are great for the patio "I want a tomato plant" person or the "oh goody let's see what we can grow" person but for someone wanting to get 300 plants ready I do NOT recommend. Get a block of coir ... which I did ... I just wanted to experiment with these. Epic fail for my purpose of ease and speed ... but with a little too much effort, they did do the job so it is a cheap alternative for the first-time hobby gardener. I thought even less of the flimsy hex 72 trays by Ferry Morris that I used them in. I sprouted the seeds in paper towels ... again for speed and viability ... then planted them in FM hex trays using prepared Burpee pellets. In just THREE days the squash seeds popped so heavy in the paper towels, the tap roots were too long for the 4" seedling trays. The seeds direct sewn in the trays still haven't popped. Again this late summer crop is an experiment. These pellets fail for anyone with more than a dozen plants.

Don't buy

Robert February 14, 2026

This product was supposed to be compatible with the Burpee Indoor Seeding Greenhouse with Heat Mat. Boy, was I wrong. None of the Super Growing Pellets fills any of the pods, it takes two Super Growing Pellets to fill a pod. So messy and so inconvenient to use indoors.

this is a joke. says to soak in warm water however there isnt a net of some sort to keep the pellets from turning into mush. avoid these. save your money and get a bag of potting soil because thats what they turn into. extremely tiny too. maybe a teaspoon each pellet

This is THE WORST SEED STARTING MEDIUM !!! I used my these in my seed ppstarting trays— with heating pad, correct Moisture level - I planted 3 different brands of seeds from different companies and NOT ONE SEED GERMINATED! As a result - I m out not only the money for this product but additional funds for seeds. Not impressed.
