trying to get data off an old computer that has no output except a floppy drive and a parallel port...already managed to get some of the data transferred to a flash drive by moving to a computer that is a few years newer....yes I can read it on my current fairly new computer!!! so I am on the right track!!!! Now trying to get the PROGRAM as well....wish me luck!!!
This USB to DB25F adapter cable allowed me to connect a Laser Jet 6L printer to my computer using a USB port. No software was required. Windows immediately recognized and automatically installed the printer. The cable did not interfere or cause any problems. I wish I would have done it sooner. The price was outstanding and it was delivered to my local Walmart for pickup within a reasonable amount of time.
New computer has no parallel port, but old printer is an outstanding workgroup level laser that's still good for over a hundred thousand pages before its first overhaul. This cheap adapter bridged the computer's USB to the printer's parallel interface; the compter recognized the situation and within 5 minutes we were turning out perfect prints with all printer options working (except maybe communications back to the computer -- jury's out on that). At any rate, it's like having a new laserjet for the price of going out for a hamburger. I love it!
This C2G cable worked flawlessly with my HP Laserjet 5 printer. It was virtually plug-and-play with my Windows 7, 64-bit operating system. I just attached the parallel end to my printer, and then attached the USB end to my computer, and my computer immediately recognized my printer. The only other set-up necessary was to follow the included instructions regarding "Printer Properties." The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. FYI, I had previously tried another company's adapter cable that would not work with my HP Laserjet 5 printer, even after spending an hour on the phone with that company's tech support. This C2G cable had my printer up and running within 5 minutes. This is certainly a superior product, and I would recommend it if you need to hook up an older parallel printer to a new computer that only has USB ports.
Plugged it in and it worked right away.
Plugged into the USB of my newer laptop and now I can print! The lack of parallel ports on newer laptops made printing a task until this cable came along.
I have an HP LaserJet 2100M printer, and after hours of configuring and reconfiguring, I could not get this cable to work. I thought the cable might be defective, so I exchanged it for another - same result. I have a cheap, 3 foot, generic cable that I previously bought elsewhere for $2.92 that worked fine right out of the package. I just wanted a longer, higher quality cable so I tried this Cables to Go 16898 cable. Needless to say, I'm back using the cheap one.
Followed all the instructions - test page was either stuck in the print queue or gave an error when test page tried to print. Windows 7 64 bit on Dell computer said everything was functioning properly. Ordered a PCI express parallel printing card and returned this item
Did not work !!
I needed this cable to enable a parallel printer to communicate with an iMac via USB. I'm not sure if that requires bidirectional communication or not - but this cable did not perform the task. Perhaps it would work in a Windows environment.
