Cacique Vegetarian Soy Chorizo, 9 oz (Refrigerated)

This is great for what it is... a vegan option at Walmart for chorizo. If you're using it as an ingredient in a larger recipe, you'll be happy with it. Like chorizo %26 eggs (or tofu), or in tacos. I use it as the base layer in taco casserole. It's a little spicy, but nothing crazy. The texture is pretty mushy, it's nothing like the texture of ground meat, so just keep that in mind.

Great vegetarian/vegan meat substitute! This is a little spicy but with a good flavor (unfortunately a bit high on sodium) but works great mixed with tofu as well! Great price and bery versatile

I bought this soy chorizo at the Kingman, AZ Walmart, and it was so good! I couldn't wait to start buying it at our own Walmart here in New Orleans, but alas. They do not carry it in any of the stores near here. Walmart, please start stocking this here in Southern Louisiana! There are a lot of Latinos here now, who came to help in the post-Katrina reconstruction and are staying, and many others who would just love this spicy, hearty, healthy, and affordable vegetarian chorizo.

very very tasty and takes less time than the pork to cook up

I bought this after realizing I could no longer eat the regular pork or beef chorizo as it made my stomach upset afterwards. I fed this to my Mexican husband and two kids, scrambled in with some eggs, and no one knew the difference. Less fat, less grisel (sp?) and less calories with no sick stomach. What could be better? I have heard that some people with a soy intolerance will NOT do well with this.

Great chorizo! Tastes as good as meat chorizo with a lot less fat and calories and none of the fat pieces or gristle like the meat option.

...on the inside. Ive been eating beef chorizo for years. Then I read the ingredient list. Scarred for life. Im so glad I tried this soy version. Really good, nice texture, no off putting gristle. We make a big batch of it using a dozen scrambled eggs and keep in the fridge for quick burritos. Try adding sautéed zucchini, bell pepper and onion, cheese, salsa and sour cream to the egg mixture for killer veggie burritos.

I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. I was really excited to try Cacique's soy chorizo. The price was very reasonable, and the package contains a good amount of chorizo. The ingredient list is fairly simple, and it was very easy to cook in a skillet. The chorizo has a pleasant chewy texture and a good amount of spicy flavor. I would recommend this in a vegetarian breakfast burrito with your favorite veggies, beans, and whatever else you enjoy.

Texture, taste and look were nothing like real chorizo. Cooks very differently from real chorizo. Absolutely not a suitable replacement. As a stand alone non-real-replacement this still tastes awful. It has the consistency of a baby's loose bowel movement.
