I can't believe I used to decorate cakes without a cake board (cake circle). These cake circles make the process so much better by making it easier to move the cake, clean up around the cake and serve the cake. Depending on the size/weight of my cake, I usually tape two to four cake boards together and cover them with food-grade foil to make a sturdy cake drum. But, I also sometimes just work with one board without covering it. The surface is already smooth and easy to clean up and nice enough to present a cake on as is. These boards also have die-cut holes in the center that you can easily punch out if you need to insert a dowel for tiered cakes. That's a nice touch, because not all cake boards have that. A 12” board is also useful for a smaller diameter cake, because it gives you room around the perimeter to include a Happy Birthday (or other occasion) message.
I've purchased other brands when I couldn't find Wilton cake circles in stock locally. Others were thin and flimsy, I had to use two boards and they still didn't compare!
I've bought cake rounds from just about everywhere, but I always come back to Wilton. I make very heavy cheesecakes and having a flimsy board to put them on is not an option, and Wilton boards never disappoint.
Such a handy product for when you are donating cakes and don't want to bother people about returning plates.
The waxed greaseproof board is so important when a cake has to sit on it unlike other brands. Also stronger.
These circles work great for potlucks. The fit perfectly in my cake carrier, and make cleanup super easy afterward.
Love the sturdiness of these circles, but I wish they came with finished edges. I end up covering them with tin foil or parchment paper to hide the visible corrugations.
The quality of these boards has gone downhill. They say greese proof, but they really aren't. My grease marks still showed up on my boards. Additionally the perforated center is a bad idea. Now when I stack my cakes, the perforated centers is a weak spot for my dowels. Wilton needs to change the picture of the product and show the perforated centers...
