The reason I bought this was because it's the ONLY mat we can find that fits our requirements, which are pretty simple: A: White and B: fit the sink area in our white porcelain sink. Sounds easy, but it's been a nightmare! Our old one is many years old and became crispy, not a good thing for a sink mat. We finally found this one and it's the perfect size, that's not the issue. The problem lies in the material- stiff enough the mat won't really settle down flat, but so thin that it probably just won't last. That being said, I'll probably have to break down and order a couple more before we can't get even this junk. Years of searching for something so simple should NOT be in the cards! As for stains, none yet, but I'm sure the first time my home made sauce comes in contact- even a tiny bit- it's gonna be there to stay. We'll keep looking for a better item, but for now there's just nothing else we can find.

We purchased this for our regular home kitchen. We have one of those asymmetrical double-bowl stainless steel sinks (30/70?), with one small sink basin about one-third the size of the other. Although this mat size doesn't really fit either sink that well (it's too large for the small sink, where it won't lay flat; and too small to adequately cover the larger side where it won't slide around), that's our fault for not considering the actual measurements beforehand. :) While this does do a decent job of cushioning delicate glassware, etc., it is one more thing that has to be scrubbed hard (and often) with an abrasive cleanser, as it gets slimy FAST (it attracts and holds onto greasy food residues with about the same tenacity as plastic). Also it picked up tomato sauce stains (which even Soft Scrub with bleach will not remove—see pic); and is a horrible-looking two-tone shade now. While it is still functional, we would not buy this again.
