Why did I hesitate and wait so long to purchase this. I fish lobster in an 18' boat and am at an age when pulling by hand stretches my strength and stamina. This will extend my happy fishing years by a lot. Received this unit in less than 48 hrs from the time the order was placed online. I rigged the unit in temporary fashion in less than an hour (including electrical) to try it out, and could pull traps SITTING DOWN. So far, absolutely no complaints, just kudos. Pretty solid unit. Hoping it will prove to be durable for several years. Be certain to install a fuse (not included) in the electrical connection: I used a 15 amp and hope it's not too much: there is no manual w/ this unit to tell what the amperage is. The voltage draw is about 2v at worst, but recovery is quick.
Great product. Works as advertised.
I purchased this item to pull Dungeness and Red crab pots from the bottom of Oregon bays. It repeatedly was up to the task and did not balk at all. The same basic pot puller cost about twice as much on Amazon. For the price and ease of installation I am impressed at its overall quality and finish, and anticipate it meeting my needs in the forseeable future. I weighted my Danielson 24" traps with 5lb plastic-coated weights and it easily pulled up traps with over a dozen crabs inside and a large stuffed bait bag.
Good design and should work well for crabbing in Oregon, only problem is I won't be back to the Oregon house until March or April. Looks to be the right size and weight load.
While I haven't actually used this puller to pull pots, there was a significant manufacturer's defect. About an inch and a half of the red positive wire near the terminal connector was exposed. Since I need the puller now, I was able to cut this connector off below the exposed wire and replace it with a Scotty Marinco connector (same one I use on my downriggers). After that, it seemed to operate normally. Also, in walmart.com's description, it states that this puller has all 10 gauge wire. All of the wiring is actually 12 gauge. Not a big deal unless you have to run the wire a longer distance or you're taxing the electric motor with heavy pots. I've written TRAC about the defect and may change my review based on their response. Otherwise, a product at this price should have been inspected a little better before boxing.
Puller worked great for exactly one year. Then the motor went put on it. For the price, I definitely think it should've lasted a lot longer!!!!
Smaller pulley is missing. Appears to not have been installed. Currently sent an email in to the company. They are shutdown for the holiday so I hope to have a response after. Noticed the big pulley is somewhat wobbly. Not what I would expect from a good quality product. Motor is a little noisy. Phone number in the instructions appears to be disconnected. All in all, I'm hoping to put this to use and put it to the test.
i have never recieved it i called they said that they would pay affirm and affirm said they would put the money i have paid so far if i dont get any saticefaction i will never buy anything from walmart Gain it was ab500 item
