As Advertised, perfect fit and function.

Skyler January 30, 2026

I purchased this anode rod to replace a completely consumed anode rod in my Rheem 6EM40‑D. I purchased it initially due to the price; it was on sale at the time for $23.14. It was advertised to be a perfect fit, and it proved to be the case. I was getting orange water out of my hot tap before installing this item, and post install the orange water went away. Note, I have a water softener that uses Sodium Chloride salt. The photo shows the entirely consumed rod cap next to this new item.

Works like it's supposed to!

NancyA April 22, 2024

We needed this for our hot water heater that we'd only had for maybe a little over a year. Wouldn't have thought we'd need to replace our anode rod already but our water was getting really fishy smelling and the dishes in the dishwasher was disgusting smelling but clean….. UGHH! This solved the problem as it usually does when it's replaced. Fast shipping too!

Heavy Solid Anode Rod

SpongeBob August 17, 2020

The new anode rod is 3/4 inch diameter solid heavy aluminum with a 1/8 inch steel core and 42 inch length. Remember to shut off your water supply and drain down a few gallons of water before removing the anode. I used a 1-1/16 inch socket with breaker bar and a 3 pound short hammer to loosen the old anode rod. I used round wire brushes to clean the 3/4 inch pipe threads in the water heater. Use a mirror and flashlight to inspect the female threads before installing the new rod. I used white pipe thread paste with Teflon and had no leaks. This is the first time I have ever replaced an anode rod in a water heater; and will hopefully extend the life of a 7-year old electric water heater. The old anode rod was completely disintegrated except for the 1/16 inch anode rod core. Just a FYI, I'm 71 years old and did this by myself. Try using a long hose and maybe try getting flow from the water heater drain valve while everything is under pressure, before shutting off the water supply and draining down some water. Without normal water pressure I had to use a 1/8 inch wide nylon tie-band to clear the valve before I could get water to drain, after I had already shut off the water and opened a nearby faucet to let air in. You can also open the tank relief valve to let air in; but you may have a leaky relief valve later.
