The one to get in this price range. Hands down.

Peter February 15, 2026

So I tried an Epson Perfection V39 II product twice, I thought the first one was defective and returned it ... but it wasn't, the second one proved the design was lousy. Neither one would get power consistently from USB ports (and I tried three computers -- mac and linux -- and only one USB port out of about 8 worked with it). I swapped cables. And nothing worked with even with a relatively new , 2023 Mac. It also used an ancient "micro USB" connector which was outdated probably 6 years ago. So I replaced it with this Canon CanoScan LiDE 400 . Plugged it in and presto, scanning in a matter of seconds. And my existing scanning software worked on both mac and linux. The Epson probably worked fine on Windows, I don't know, but it was horrible everywhere. This canon has a USB-C connector (note: everything sold now should too) and works flawlessly out of the box. I only tell this story to save others time debugging Epson. Go Canon!

I was so tired of running to Staples every time I needed to scan a document onto a thumb drive so I could email it to someone. This scanner does exactly what I need it to do: scan a document to a folder on my computer's hard drive. I compared the price of the scanner and this seller definitely has the best price!

Software is too complex

M U April 19, 2026

Nice physical scanner .. software is too complex and not intuitive… my hp scanner software from 20 years ago is straight forward and seems to be superior and simpler to use

i really like this scanner

Felora November 26, 2025

I purchased this photo scanner about 6 weeks ago. Cons: Overall I have no issues with it other than I wish it had a feature to color correct old faded photos. Perhaps its too much to expect considering the low cost of this device. Pros: Easy to install. Easy to use. I can fit up to 6 pictures depending on the size of each photo. It separates the photos, ready to name and move to the desired folder. Light weight and compact. No electrical connection required.

Does as promised.

Grmpy May 13, 2020

Very functional and does as promised. Did not give it 5 stars because of software. There should be one software package, not 2, that combines all the functionality under one roof. Learning which software package to use for a particular type of scan is taking longer than it should.

Works fine, only about 4x faster than my 15 year old scanner

dan2 January 15, 2020

Works fine, only about 4x faster than my LiDE 25 that was made 15 years ago. The technology only progresses at this rate? Had to upgrade because software has been discontinued for the old scanner. If the software wasn't discontinued I wouldn't have upgraded. So you win, Canon.

IJ Utility Scan inferior to CanoScan Toolbox 5.0

Oor April 2, 2023

We replaced a 600F with this 400. The scanner is more awkward to use, but acceptable. The IJ Scan Utility though is far inferior to the earlier CanoScan Toolbox 5.0. In the Toolbox all the settings I change regularly, mode, scan type and output file name are on one pop-up, not on a layer below. Also, I should have total control over the output file name. I should not have to remove date/sequence nbr every time I scan something. Both the hardware and software are a step backwards. If Canon had Windows 11 drivers for the 600F we would still be using a perfectly operating scanner and a well thought out interface.

Good scanner, but package was looted.

Joseph November 13, 2025

Scanner was delivered in a previously opened box. The USB cable was missing. Had to purchase the USB, from another seller, to make it work. Would not advise anyone to buy from the Third Party Vendor. Package may have been looted AFTER it was shipped, though. We have used the unit to scan 3 or 4 documents into a Chromebook. Seems to function well, and it looks pretty.

This is for the seller “Biocloud”. Sent a mangled box without protection. A waste of my time as I had to return it to Walmart and NOW I still have not received my refund six days after returning it to Walmart.
