scanners that I looked at had various benefits and things that were not so good so I did a lot of looking at them and this was exactly what I needed described exactly there are bettet for different uses and types but this was extremely the best for the little cost very happy

I have taken on the daunting task of putting the family photos in digital format. This scanner has made it so much easier than using a flat bed scanner. It works very quickly and does a great job on the photos. I was able to get an entire storage bin of photos scanned in about 3 hours. I still have several bins to go but on a flat bed scanner, I would have only been able to get a small portion of them done and they would not have looked as good. I would definitely recommend this scanner.

Instructions for basic procedure are NOT TOO clear. You need to write instructions for an eight grade level.

I like the speed. I like that I can change dpi. It was easy to set up and have 1 program so you didn't have a huge learning curve. color photos needed adjustment constantly as photos from different cameras but was not difficult to adjust just time consuming.

Okay I'm sure there's better scanners out there but this is the best one that I've ever owned. My aunt recently passed away and she had a lot of pictures. I thought about going to legacy box and just shipping the photos off to get digitized but they wanted about $630 to scan 1000 photos and put them on a usb drive. After looking ofe different options I purchased both this scanned and a laptop for less then what legacy box would charge for 1000 photos. yes I have put several hours into scanning the photos but honestly the most time consuming part is sorting them by size and orientation. My aunt ended up having 2500 photos. After that i scanned my 700 and am currently scanning my Mom's photos and am up to about 3200. It advertises 40 photos per minute this is at 300 DPI the default when you start a 600 DPI which I think is a good resolution to scan. at 600 is very quick maybe 20 photos per minute or more I haven't really timed it. I also love the future where you can scan both sides of the picture or document at once this is going to make text time very easy.

I have just begun to use it, but installation and set up were easy. The manual is on line and it helped to read it before fumbling around operating it. At 300 dpi it is fast. Even at 600 dpi it moves along quickly.

While the scanner is easy to use nightmare to install software

The color correction is not very good and does not distorts human subjects at times. If there was a way of totally disabling the color correction and let the user use Photoshop for this task it would be great. If you are only doing gray scale (i.e. black and white) this can be worked around a bit. I am going to be using this scanner mainly for very old BW and old documents and this unit is well suited for this task.

I used this scanner for a few months scanning approximately 8,000 photos when it stopped feeding. I contacted support who told me I should replace the rollers which I did and which did NOT resolve the issue. Ultimately I was told I needed to purchase a new scanner and there was nothing that could be done. This product is rated for 4,000 scans a DAY so why does it fail with just double that amount??

I purchased the imageFORMULA RS 40 Photo and Document Scanner thinking it would produce higher quality scans than a multi-function printer scanner. However, I was very disappointed. As I began scanning photos, this scanner totally ruined the color with its automatic color correction which after much effort and calling Canon Tech Support cannot be shut off. The only offering was scan the photos in and then move them to a photo editing software and correct the color. My photos had perfect color so why go through all that effort. If all you want to scan is black & white photos, it is fine but for color photos, look elsewhere. I returned this scanner and would not recommend it.
